Primary Function

The Principal Systems Engineer will lead complex security engagements, develop and execute a strategic security architecture vision, including standards and frameworks that are aligned with overall business/technology strategy. The Principal Systems Engineer will drive security components of all technology architecture in the company (including network architecture and Cloud) to ensure that security, privacy and compliance requirements are addressed throughout the lifecycle of the initiative. The Principal Systems Engineer will lead the effort in the implementation of security solutions, conduct security assessments of enterprise platforms and work with these teams to eliminate any vulnerabilities.

Principal Duties

  • Develop and execute a customized strategic architecture vision for the Company.
  • Drive security components of all technical architecture initiatives in the company (including network architecture).
  • Lead the effort in implementation of security solutions including privilege management solutions and SIEM.
  • Develop security baselines for the Companies infrastructure.
  • Provide specific input and feedback on policies that need to be configured in security controls.
  • Design security architecture and develop cyber security designs.
  • Lead and assist in incident investigations.
  • Engineer, implement and monitor security measures for the protection of computer systems, networks and information.
  • Security consulting on critical projects and initiatives.
  • Develop technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
  • Ensure that the company knows as much as possible, as quickly as possible about security incidents.
  • Raise the awareness level of security in the enterprise.
  • Ability to effectively and accurately convey information to others.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • CISSP, CCSP or CISM certification.
  • 7+ years of directly related experience.
  • Finance industry background.
  • Proven experience as a Principal Engineer with a focus on Azure cloud solutions.
  • Proven work experience as a principal or a senior security architect.
  • Experience in building and maintaining security systems.
  • Experience establishing security requirements for technology initiatives.
  • Experience with network security and networking technologies and with system, security, and network monitoring tools.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements

  • Knowledge of network configurations and devices.
  • Technical knowledge of database and operating system security.
  • Hands on experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols.
  • Familiarity with web related technologies (Web applications, Web Services, Service Oriented Architectures) and of network/web related protocols.
  • Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Self-motivated individual with leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build and manage relationships across a large enterprise.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Working on-site at assigned office location.
  • Regular and punctual attendance adhering to schedule established by leadership.
  • Flexibility to work occasional adjusted work schedules, overtime, and evening and/or weekend hours to meet deadlines or as business needs demand.
  • Working in a cubicle hub, maintaining focus on phone calls in a noisy environment within earshot of multiple other conversations.
  • Sedentary work in a stationary position at a cubicle for prolonged periods of time.
  • Constant repetitive motions required for operating a computer, such as typing and managing phone calls.
  • Constantly communicating effectively verbally in English, including accurately exchanging information with others following identification of correct procedures.
