Status: Full-time, Exempt, (During the Academic Year)

Salary Scale: $62,000-$83,000 (based on years of experience and expertise)

Position Summary:

The Attendance and Family Engagement Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining plans to address attendance and truancy issues at Caliber Beta Academy with utilizing the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). The Coordinator should have the skills necessary to work cooperatively with teachers, clinicians, school administrators, and parents to assure compliance with attendance laws and regulations, and other related duties as required.

The Attendance and Family Engagement Coordinator will improve communication between the school and the students’ families; promote parent engagement in their children’s education; and to encourage greater community involvement in the school. This position has a specific role in three major areas of work with families:

1) Promote and enhance the parent-child relationship

2) Engage parents in discussions about their child’s attendance, growth and

development

3) Provide parents information, experiences and opportunities to learn about concrete practices they can implement to promote their child’s learning.

The Attendance and Family Engagement Coordinator establishes and maintains community relationships that serve as referral sources for families. Our ultimate goal is to assist parents in becoming more involved with their children’s education and to promote a sense of community.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Consults and collaborates with teachers, staff, counselors, parents/guardians, and others to assist students and families in achieving optimal academic and social emotional success.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing policies, regulations, and procedures pertaining to student attendance monitoring.
  • To monitor attendance, looking for trends and patterns for individual students and specific groups particularly those identified as vulnerable.
  • Assist school leaders in identifying students with attendance concerns, assess the underlying causes of poor attendance and punctuality in individual cases and target resources by effective intervention to maximize attendance and improve punctuality.
  • To coordinate home visits in line with the school’s Attendance Policy, and to keep a record of these visits in order to pursue concerns about attendance and offer the relevant channels of support.
  • Recommend pupil referrals to the school principal or designee for such agencies as the child guidance clinics, family service and placement agencies, and to other institutions to support students and families in meeting attendance expectations.
  • Assist the Leadership Team to coordinate, refer and submit the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) referrals to District SARB.
  • Responsible for implementing and overseeing the School Attendance Review Team (SART) system and participating in the Caliber Network Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) program.
  • Create a welcoming, safe, and supportive Family Resource Center/Parent Room environment. Virtually, create a Family Resource Portal and co-lead parent town hall meetings.
  • Make students and parents aware of instructional and social emotional support that is available at the campus for students who are struggling academically and monitor student participation in support options.
  • Lead the FCC (Family Community Committee) to coordination a variety of family/parent participation activities (i.e. cultural events, common core grade level workshops, parent orientations, parenting support workshops, computer classes, reading night, perfect attendance, etc) and carry out tasks such as ordering food, setting up, cleaning up, handouts, event logistics in coordination with Operations and leadership teams.
  • Lead Communication/Outreach/Promotion with parent leaders, community partners and school site staff for family workshops/events, or other parent communication necessary for student achievement and school culture.
  • Foster relationships/partnerships with outside community and educational organizations focused on family engagement linked to learning

Given the dynamic nature of the role and structure of Caliber Changemakers and Beta Academy. it must be accepted that as the work develops and changes, there will be a need for adjustments to the role and responsibilities of this post. This job operates in a school/classroom environment. This position classification involves sitting with some walking and standing for extended periods of time. Staff may be required to lift, pull or push objects approximately 50 pounds or less. The employee will encounter exposure to ill students. The position requires mobility to climb, kneel, stoop, crawl, reach and bend, and accurate perceiving of sound; near and far vision with the ability to read small print; depth dexterity; and the providing of oral information and direction. The position is primarily located at a school site with outside supervision and some district office visits. The employee will frequently work independently with high work volume and tight deadlines.

  • Bachelor’s Degree, but experience and exceptional references considered

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of recent experience in an education setting

Skills:

  • Bi-lingual/bi-cultural (Spanish/English) highly preferred.
  • Good organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and collaboratively.
