JOB SUMMARY

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) plays a critical strategic role in supporting retail store operations and vendor partnerships. Acting as a trusted advisor to store leadership, this role drives talent strategies, organizational effectiveness, and workforce planning to enable operational excellence and a high-performing culture. The HRBP ensures that HR initiatives are aligned with business goals and tailored to the dynamic needs of the retail environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Partnership & Business Alignment

  • Partner with regional and store leadership to understand business priorities and translate them into people strategies that drive performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Align HR initiatives with retail operational goals, including staffing models, labor optimization, and seasonal workforce planning.
  • Serve as a strategic connector between store teams and vendor partners to ensure cohesive talent and service strategies.

Talent & Leadership Development

  • Lead talent planning and succession strategies for store leadership roles, ensuring a strong pipeline of future leaders.
  • Coach store and district leaders to build leadership capability, drive team engagement, and foster inclusive workplace practices.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to support high-volume hiring, onboarding, and retention strategies tailored to retail cycles.

Organizational Effectiveness & Change Leadership

  • Support organizational change initiatives such as store openings, closings, restructures, and process improvements.
  • Use workforce analytics to identify trends in turnover, engagement, and productivity, and recommend data-driven solutions to support current location and new store openings.
  • Champion a culture of agility, accountability, and continuous improvement across store teams.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Provide expert guidance on employee relations matters, ensuring fair and consistent resolution aligned with company values and company policies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including wage and hour regulations, scheduling practices, and safety standards.
  • Partner with store leaders to proactively address workplace concerns and promote a respectful, inclusive environment.
  • Conduct investigations as needed.
  • Serves as Associate Advocate, maintain a strong presence with all associates, ensuring high levels of engagement and positive employee relations
  • Stays connected to the associates, builds professional relationships and maintains a pulse on the environment

HR Program Execution

  • Lead the rollout of HR programs and initiatives across the store, ensuring consistency and relevance to store operations.
  • Monitor program effectiveness and adapt strategies to meet evolving business and workforce needs.
  • Collaborate with HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) to lead program rollouts and ensure strong execution aligned with operational needs.

Work Schedule

  • Must be available to work one weekend per month and one late shift (evening) per week as needed.

RECOMMENDED PERFORMANCE METRICS

  • Engagement surveys results for key business lines HRBP is responsible for
  • Internal customer satisfaction of key leaders and managers with HR as a function
  • Successful fulfillment of key business and operational goals, metrics and OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) for the business line
  • Quantity and quality of key HR interventions
    • Number of and effectiveness of trainings administered to business line
    • Number of interviews conducted and quality of hiring
    • Number of conflict escalations or tickets for the business line
  • Number of complaints from associates in the business line
  • Employee satisfaction and engagement

RELEVANT EXPERIENCES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field; HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including strategic HR support in a retail or field-based environment.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to influence and drive results through others.
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume, customer-focused environment.
  • Experience practicing HRBP level work within the Retail Industry
  • Background or experience in leadership positions, particularly those with indirect influence responsibilities over multi-unit or department organizations
  • Experience in continuous improvement activities, specifically in leading and executing them across business units or departments
  • Background and experience in conflict resolution, Labor Relations and employee advocacy
  • Bilingual – English & Spanish proficiency

  • The work environment is that typical of an office and retail store. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
  • This position is part of our Northgate González Market Support Center and is defined as a full-time, on-site role based at our Costa Mesa Mercado location. Please note: this position is not eligible for a hybrid schedule.

Salary Range: $95,316 to $121,528
