This is a leadership role for someone who thrives on solving complex tooling challenges while mentoring a skilled team. You’ll spend time both supervising and performing advanced repairs. You’ll have the autonomy to shape tool room processes, influence continuous improvement initiatives, and develop your team’s technical capabilities

Work on over 300 precision molds, including hot runner systems and high-performance materials like PEEK and glass-filled resins—where your expertise makes the difference between downtime and production success. Lead by example—perform repairs, coach team members, and set priorities to keep production moving

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and oversee complex mold repairs, including welding, EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining), polishing, and fitting.
  • Troubleshoot mold issues and implement corrective actions to restore functionality and extend mold life.
  • Ensure molds are production-ready and meet quality and dimensional standards.
  • Supervise and support a team consisting of a Mold Cleaner, Machinist, and Mold Engineer.
  • Prioritize daily tasks and allocate resources to meet production and maintenance schedules.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to team members.
  • Proper tracking and documention of all mold repair activities and associated costs.
  • Collaborate with the Quoting Department to prepare accurate repair quotes for customer-owned molds.
  • Ensure repair revenue offsets tool room operational costs, including this role’s salary.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules and documentation.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in mold performance and tool room efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of mold history, repairs, and modifications.
  • Work closely with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to align mold readiness with production needs.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and customers regarding mold condition and repair status

Qualifications and skills:

  • 5-10 years of experience in injection mold maintenance and repair
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role or relevant tasks.
  • Strong hands-on experience with complex molds, including hot runner systems and high-temperature materials.
  • Proficient in TIG welding, EDM operation, surface grinding, and mold fitting.
  • Familiarity with mold design, blueprint reading, and precision measurement tools.
  • Experience with mold materials such as PEEK, glass-filled resins, and other engineering-grade plastics.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Technical Degree in Tool & Die, Mold Making, or related field.
  • Experience with ERP systems and maintenance tracking software (IQMS).
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and 5S principles.

We offer market competitive compensation. Potential salary range for this role is $115k-$130k. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law
