Job Summary
The Public Safety Officer promotes and maintains a safe and secure hospital campus environment by providing safety and security services to Northfield Hospital + Clinics (NH+C), patients, visitors and employees.
Compensation
We are committed to providing wage ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on experience, education and internal equity considerations. The hourly wage range for this position is $17.84–$25.18. This range reflects the base salary for this position.
Key Accountabilities
- Maintain a highly visible profile through frequent patrols of campus property to prevent, detect and address unacceptable behavior.
- Maintain security and alarm response on hospital campus buildings through active foot patrol by checking, locking, and rechecking all exterior and interior doors and windows.
- Respond to, investigate, resolve (if possible) and document reported security incidents/complaints.
- Receive training and respond to chemical spills and decontamination of patients.
- Assist law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations through exchange of information.
- Provide assistance to the campus by responding to calls for service to include escorts, access requests, and vehicle assistance.
- Respond to all Emergency Response Guide activations/Codes.
- Respond to calls for service from off-site NH+C facilities in Northfield, Lakeville, Farmington, Faribault, and Kenyon.
- Handles hazardous pharmaceutical waste in accordance with hospital protocol, including properly disposing of hazardous wastes, ensuring hazardous waste disposal containers are closed, and recognizing any hazardous waste spills or emergencies and contacting the hospital’s hazardous waste coordinator accordingly.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be reliable, conscientious and able to work independently.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently to ensure safe and effective communication in a healthcare environment.
- Ability to interact with Administration, staff, patients, residents and visitors.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability and willingness to effectively deal with difficult and sometimes violent people and make decisions quickly while maintaining composure in the crisis situations.
- Maintain valid MN Driver’s license and driving record that meets NH+C driving standards.
- Possess Basic Certification from the International Association for Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) (or must be obtained within six months of hire).
- Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification (or must be obtained within six months of hire)
- Crisis Prevention Institute Foundations Course Certification (or must be obtained within six months of hire)
- Defensive Tactics certification that includes the use of a baton and handcuffs. (and/or NH+C defensive tactics training must be completed within six months of hire).
Preferred Qualifications
- Two-year college degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, security or related field
- Previous hospital security experience
- Bilingual in Spanish or another language.
- One year of experience in law enforcement or security work
Schedule
- 80 hours per 2-week pay period
- 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.; 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
- Every other weekend, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
- Rotating holidays
