GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
- Provides support to a person with a disability at home, work, school, church, and other community places.
- Assists with activities of daily living and encourages attitudes and behaviors that enhance community inclusion.
- Acts as an advocate for disabled individuals in communicating their needs, self-expression, and goals.
- Document weekly progress toward group and intervention participation.
- Participates in treatment team meetings and shift change reports.
- Prepares forms associated with resident recreation and activities.
- Enters, records, and maintains information in written or electronic form.
- Handles complaints, settles disputes, resolves grievances and conflicts, or otherwise supports residents who reside together to resolve these issues and disputes.
- Accompany residents on outings and activities, including shopping, Special Olympics, dining out, movies, or trips to visit family members or attend medical appointments.
- Ability to work with and around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.
- Provides intermittent direct observation of individuals at significant risk of self-injurious behavior and is required to provide complete attention, intervention, and redirection at any moment per the outlined plan in the Positive Behavior Support Plan.
- Provides daily individual and group contact to residents through the delivery of recreation and leisure activities.
- Plans and prepares for group and special event programming for residents.
- Document weekly progress toward group and intervention participation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of resident protocols and interventions of therapy.
- Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and management of aggressive behaviors.
- Knowledge of mental illnesses and disabilities.
- Knowledge of recreation and social programming.
- Knowledge of motivational techniques.
- Knowledge of ethics and how to maintain professional boundaries.
- Skills in using a computer and Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of emergency procedures such as BLS, First Aid, and MANDT.
- Ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner with residents, staff, families, guardians, and the public.
- Ability to work with and around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience Substitution:
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Human Services)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
CNA Certification obtained within twelve (12) months of hire
OR
Education:
Associate's degree (typically in healthcare)
Experience:
No prior experience is required.

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to:
- Safely move (twisting, bending, lifting, kneeling, pushing, pulling), position, and lift people with multiple and severe disabilities.
- Ability to monitor sounds, noises, locations of residents, etc,. to assure safety and assess imminent danger and emerging concerns.
- Ability to work alone and/or with multiple residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.
- Ability to intervene and provide support and redirection during resident behavior episodes.
- Ability to perform CPR, First Aid, Mandt, Advanced Mandt, and Crisis Management.
- Ability to work in a high-stress situation, if necessary.
NOTES:
- FLSA: Non-Exempt
- A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions. Drug testing will be conducted on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
- The Wyoming Life Resource Center participates in E-Verify. We will provide the Social Security Administration, and if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security, with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization. Please note that we do not use this information to pre-screen job applicants.

- One year of service in the position must be completed. Failure to complete this requirement will require reimbursement of the bonus with the funds deducted from the final pay.
- Internal candidates will be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from the promotion date.
- Employees will only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
