Purpose Brands, the parent company of Orangetheory, Anytime Fitness, Waxing the City, The Bar Method, and Basecamp Fitness, is seeking a Data Engineer II to join its team. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Engineer III to join our dynamic data team. You will specialize in our ERP-related data landscape, taking ownership of core processes and datasets. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining our core data infrastructure, particularly building scalable, efficient ERP data models that drive essential business functions in Finance and Operations.

As a senior member of the team, you will work with a high degree of autonomy, leading moderately complex projects and establishing timelines and priorities for your work. While this role does not involve direct people management, you will be a crucial mentor and guide for more junior team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. We are looking for a well-rounded data professional who is not only technically proficient but also a strong communicator and collaborator, capable of bridging the gap between complex ERP data and business stakeholder needs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • ERP Data Ownership & Modeling
  • ERP Data Pipeline Management: Own, maintain, and optimize all data pipelines and datasets originating from our core ERP systems. Ensure data quality, integrity, and timely delivery of mission-critical financial and operational data.
  • Core Data Model Development: Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable, robust, and secure data pipelines using ETL/ELT best practices.
  • Specialized Data Modeling: Transform and optimize large, complex datasets into well-structured, efficient data models tailored to business needs, with a specific emphasis on operational and financial reporting structures.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Develop a deep domain understanding of the company’s ERP business processes (e.g., financial operations, franchise management platforms), acting as the go-to expert for data-related questions and initiatives in this landscape.

Project Leadership & Collaboration

  • Project Autonomy: Independently manage and lead moderately complex data engineering projects, identifying technical gaps, proposing solutions, and taking ownership from conception to deployment with minimal direct supervision.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Work closely with Finance, Operations, and business stakeholders to understand their data requirements, proactively driving and leading
  • technical discussions to define clear data architecture solutions.
  • Operational Excellence: Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data pipelines to ensure high performance and reliability. Understand and consider the cost implications associated with your technology choices and architectural designs.
  • Process Management: Maintain clear and up-to-date project status in Jira and effectively communicate progress to Technical Project Managers and
  • team leads.

Technical Guidance & Standards

  • Mentorship: Act as a technical leader and mentor to junior engineers. Provide guidance through code reviews, training, and sharing best practices to elevate the team's skills.
  • Documentation & Governance: Champion and contribute to our documentation culture by creating and maintaining high-quality technical documentation. Help establish and enforce data engineering best practices, including data security, privacy, and governance protocols.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics) or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience building and maintaining large-scale data pipelines in a cloud environment.
  • 5+ years of direct experience designing, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Proven expertise in writing highly optimized, efficient SQL and experience with complex data modeling.
  • Strong domain expertise and proven data modeling experience in core ERP domains, such as Financial Operations (e.g., management accounting) or Franchise Management.
  • Demonstrated experience working in big data environments and processing large volumes of data.
  • A strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and architecture.

  • Data Modeling: Ability to translate complex source data into clean, performant, and reliable core data models suitable for enterprise consumption.
  • Collaboration & Influence: Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical models and concepts to non-technical business stakeholders. Proactively drives discussions and technical direction within assigned projects.
  • Mentorship & COE Adherence: Acts as a technical mentor and guide for junior resources on product-specific knowledge. Executes work in adherence with data engineering best practices and proactively guides others in adopting these standards.

  • Data Transformation: dbt (data build tool) Cloud
  • Programming: Python (not required)
  • Cloud Services: Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Version Control: GitHub
  • Project Management & Documentation: Jira, Confluence
  • Bonus Skills: Familiarity with the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.

WORK SCHEDULE

Purpose Brands LLC, currently observe the following hybrid work model for employees at our Boca Raton (FL), Woodbury (MN), and Seattle (WA) offices:

  • Remote optional: Wednesdays and Fridays
  • On-site days: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays
