The Director of Graduate Student Recruitment and Marketing Strategy is responsible for developing and executing a campus-wide strategy to increase graduate enrollment by 10 percent. This position will strengthen the university's graduate brand, coordinate recruitment and communications efforts across schools, and ensure alignment of enrollment marketing initiatives. The Director will serve as a central strategist and collaborator, working with recruiters, admissions staff, communications professionals, and campus leadership to drive measurable enrollment growth.
The Director will directly supervise the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Communications and Operations Analyst, ensuring CRM capabilities and communications align with campus-wide enrollment strategies. In addition, the Director will coordinate closely with University Communications and Marketing (UCM) to ensure graduate enrollment marketing aligns with the university's overall brand, top-of-funnel campaigns, and institutional messaging priorities. This position will also collaborate with the Division of Enrollment Management (DEM), Indiana University (IU) Online, and International Offices to support shared campus enrollment goals.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Provide strategic enrollment leadership.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive graduate enrollment marketing and recruitment strategy at the campus level aligned with university goals.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen the overall campus brand for graduate study.
- Translate enrollment data and trends into actionable strategies to improve the recruitment funnel.
- Leverage CRM and analytics platforms to identify, segment, and target prospective student populations for recruitment campaigns.
- Monitor and report on conversion rates at each stage of the recruitment funnel; use data insights to adjust strategies in real time for improved outcomes.
- Develop dashboards and regular reports to track recruitment effectiveness and inform decision-making.
- Responsible for marketing and communications.
- Create and manage campus-wide campaigns that highlight the value of graduate education.
- Oversee development of messaging frameworks, brand guidelines, and marketing assets for use by schools.
- Manage campus-level web, email, and social channels targeting prospective graduate students.
- Collaborate with UCM to ensure consistency with institutional brand, and coordinate on awareness and top-of-funnel campaigns.
- Develop and coordinate recruitment strategies.
- Partner with school-level recruiters to coordinate recruitment, outreach, and yield efforts.
- Develop best practices for student engagement, lead nurturing, and event follow-up.
- Align recruitment event calendars and activities across schools to maximize impact.
- Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of campus-wide recruitment events, ensuring alignment with enrollment goals and maximizing student engagement.
- Collaborate with school-level recruiters to design event formats, outreach strategies, and follow-up communications.
- Participate directly in select recruitment events (e.g., graduate fairs, open houses, webinars) to engage prospective students and represent the university's graduate programs.
- Conduct informational sessions and Question and Answer (Q and A) forums for prospective students to address questions and promote graduate opportunities.
- Ensure collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
- Serve as the central liaison among admissions, communications, and graduate program leadership to coordinate recruitment initiatives and marketing efforts for graduate studies.
- Facilitate regular cross-school meetings to ensure consistency in messaging and timing.
- Manage vendor/agency relationships for advertising, media, and lead generation campaigns.
- Establish regular feedback loops with school-level recruiters, admissions staff, and communications professionals to gather insights and continuously refine recruitment strategies.
- Implement surveys, focus groups, or debrief sessions after major recruitment initiatives to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Responsible for team leadership and resource management.
- Directly supervise the CRM Communications and Operations Analyst, providing strategic direction for CRM utilization, enrollment communications, and data-driven outreach.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to staff to ensure alignment with enrollment growth goals.
- Manage the budget for graduate enrollment marketing and recruitment initiatives, including allocation of resources for advertising, events, and lead generation.
- Oversee vendor/agency contracts and ensure expenditures align with strategic priorities and deliver measurable results.
General Responsibilities
- Independently develop and execute basic and increasingly more complex strategic marketing plans for a department or functional area within a department to advance goals and objectives, including data collection and market research, target market definition, development of project timelines, sourcing of promotional materials, and marketing content creation.
- Respond to inquiries and requests from stakeholders and explain information regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
- Manage relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, and act as a collaborative resource in curating marketing plans to relevant initiatives, groups, events, and programs.
- Regularly research relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty, including information on various marketing channels (print, online, electronic, email, social media, and direct mail).
- May participate in team-based marketing planning to align strategies and deadlines across various concurrent projects and initiatives.
- Collaborate with users of various software programs and creative platforms to create and deliver content and marketing materials in multiple formats to a variety of audiences.
- May provide guidance to lower-level Marketing Generalists.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, public relations, or related field
Preferred
- Master's degree in marketing, communications, higher education administration, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years of experience in a relevant field
Preferred
- 5 years of progressive experience in enrollment management, marketing, or communications
- Experience in higher education

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Some travel to recruitment events is required.

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
Advertised Salary
$45.947.20 - $75,000 annually
