Commercial Field Engineer (The Bay Area, CA)

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Field Engineer is the technical expert on the Tech Ops team performing testing and commissioning of AV systems. They are responsible for ensuring a project is executed with excellence and meets all design requirements in the scope of work. This is done through working with the team in checking, documenting, configuring and programming audio video and network equipment throughout following the installation process. The Field Engineer is the technical liaison with the client for training at the end of each project.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • Commissioning Audio Video systems, inclusive of lighting, shades, and security as needed
  • Ensure well executed system installation through detailed documentation, including but not limited to:
    • Review and mark up of drawings
    • IP and network documentation
    • System commissioning documentation
    • Daily reports
  • Troubleshooting and effectively communicating issues to the team for resolution
  • Interface & maintain ongoing dialogue for projects with internal project team and clients
  • Identify and confirm all cabling and hardware is installed and functioning correctly
  • Direct technical teams on installation challenges
  • Project manager liaison for engineering inquires
  • Assist and perform ongoing technical assessment and support for tech ops during integration, install, & commissioning
  • Other duties assigned as needed

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & SPECIAL ATTRIBUTES

  • 4+ years’ experience in AV systems commissioning, including configuring and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with AV software platforms, including but not limited to QSYS, Biamp, Crestron, Teams, Zoom, Cisco, Poly, etc.
  • CTS-D or formal education in engineering or related field preferred
  • Must be able to interpret and mark up construction and technical drawings
  • Experience working with clients in a professional manner
  • Must be able to effectively explain technical concepts to non-technical users
  • Highly skilled in oral and written communication – clear, direct, detailed.
  • Independent work ethic highly motivated to getting a job done right
  • MS Office – able to use Excel, Word, PowerPoint proficiently without training

PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS

This position regularly requires employees to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment. Field work such as climbing ladders and doing overhead work also required.

EQUIPMENT USED

Standard office and computer equipment including MS Office software.

Other audio video and network test equipment and hand tools use may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Primarily finish construction environment. Work will be performed primarily on site.

Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend English.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires travel to local job sites within driving distance and air travel to out-of-state job sites. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be able to fly as needed for project requirements.

Pay Rate: $90,000 - $144,000/yr depending on background and experience.
