Who May Apply

All applicants must hold (or be eligible by June 30, 2026) a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PK-12. A minimum of three years experience as a principal, assistant principal, or commensurate central office experience and five years teaching experience required. Secondary level principal experience preferred. CTE experience preferred.

General Definition of Work:

The Principal of the Albemarle Career Exploration Academy (ACE) is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of career-focused, academically challenging programs. This role ensures that the curriculum integrates core academic subjects, advanced learning opportunities in the given areas of focus, and connected work-based learning experiences. This position will play a key role in promoting ACE Academy programs to middle school students, managing the procurement of equipment for various programs, and building a strong sense of community in the school when it opens in 2026.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the development and implementation of curriculum that integrates core academic subjects, advanced learning opportunities in the given areas of focus, and connected work-based learning experiences.
  • Promote ACE Academy programs to middle school students, raising awareness of career pathways and opportunities available through the Scholars Studios.
  • Supervise, support, coach, and evaluate Academy staff, fostering a culture of professional growth, high expectations, and excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with industry partners, community organizations, and local businesses to develop real-world learning opportunities for students and ensure that programs align with current workforce needs.
  • Order and manage the procurement of equipment and supplies necessary to support the specific needs of each ACE Academy program, ensuring that all equipment is available and ready for instructional use.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee special events, activities, and initiatives related to ACE Academy , including recruitment and marketing efforts to attract students and families.
  • Take a leadership role in the staffing, hiring, planning and coordination of the second ACE Academy, set to open in July 2026, ensuring the smooth development and launch of this new facility.
  • Represent the ACE Academy at regional and state meetings, conferences, and other events, advocating for program needs, opportunities, and successes.
  • Lead and facilitate various meetings, workshops, and conferences to share information and promote the goals and initiatives of the ACE Academy
  • Develop and implement assessments to monitor student learning progress and ensure that program objectives and career readiness goals are met.
  • Provide leadership in the recruitment and course registration processes, ensuring that students are adequately prepared for ACE Academy and that transitions are smooth.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a safe and effective learning environment, ensuring that ACE facilities and resources are in optimal condition.
  • Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to the ACE Academy, ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the growth and success of the ACE Academy.
  • Ensure student engagement and alignment of instructional activities relative to specific pathways.
  • Oversight of project-based learning.
  • Ensure 3E(Enrollment, Enlistment, Employment) opportunities are implemented, monitored and available for students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of K-12 education practices, with a focus on best practices, curriculum development, and student assessment in career pathways.
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate staff to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that aligns with career readiness goals.
  • Strong knowledge of industry trends, workforce development, and the local labor market to ensure ACE Academy remains relevant and responsive.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to engage effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Proficiency in using modern technologies, including CTE-related software and equipment.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage the procurement of equipment for ACE Academy ensuring programs have the necessary resources to operate successfully.
  • Strong experience building a school community.
  • Proven ability to promote ACE Academy to middle school students and guide them through course selection and career exploration.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, including the planning for the second CTE center.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically about long-term program goals.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build strong partnerships and secure resources for program success.
  • Knowledge of social emotional learning supports for secondary students.

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution is required; a Master’s degree in Education, Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Must hold an endorsement in PK-12 Admin and Supervision
  • Must have prior experience in career and technical education or a related field, with a proven track record of successful leadership and curriculum development.
  • Experience in planning and opening a new educational facility is highly desirable.
  • Experience in working with business and industry partners is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years teaching or related experience is required.
