Pay Range $1,750 per credit hour

Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description

The College of Law is a seeking part-time instructor to teach a compressed-format Legal & Business Principles in Sports and Entertainment course in our online JDInteractive program during the Spring 2026 term, with the possibility of teaching the course in subsequent years. This is a non-tenure-eligible, non-renewable contract faculty position. This course examines that area of law known as “Sports and Entertainment Law,” which most sports and entertainment law practitioners agree has no set definition, but includes a hybrid of distinct areas of the law, including but not limited to intellectual property and contracts. In this class, our goal is to focus on the protection of intellectual property and the contractual relationships between various parties in the sports and entertainment industries. The relationship between the athlete/artist and his/her manager, agent, lawyer, employer, endorsers and others will be explored in great detail.

Qualifications

  • Excellent academic record.
  • JD degree.
  • Post-JD experience and credentials must include substantial.
  • Leadership-level experience developing and implementing robust law school programming for academic and bar success.
  • Substantial experience with skills instruction at the law school level is required.
  • Skills and abilities to effectively interact with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Substantial legal practice experience in intellectual property and contract law, with specific experience in sports and entertainment law, is required.
  • Must also be able to teach specific substantive topics in response to student interest.
  • Experience teaching Sports and Entertainment Law at the law school level is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Order the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
  • Prepare lectures, projects and other student assignments.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meet all designated class periods.
  • Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to the College of Law and University regulations.
  • Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations
