We help the world run better

At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

Meet The Team:

Our team is looking for a Senior Kubernetes DevOps Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping our cloud-native infrastructure. You will be responsible for defining and driving the architectural patterns for distributed systems, leading the design and implementation of our container infrastructure platforms, and continuously evolving our practices. A key aspect of this role will be leading the design and implementation of our deployment strategies, ensuring seamless, reliable, and innovative application rollouts to Kubernetes. You will be a key leader in delivering sophisticated solutions that enrich the user experience of cloud-native platforms, particularly Kubernetes, and empower teams running containerized workloads with scalable, reliable, and efficient infrastructure.

Curiosity and teamwork are two of the values that drive us as a development team. If you’re passionate about these values too, you are likely a great fit for us. As a team, we’re constantly finding ways to improve ourselves, and as a senior member, you will be instrumental in fostering this culture. We pride ourselves on our communication and teamwork – we’re all in this together!

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the architectural design, planning, and implementation of advanced deployment strategies and rollout methodologies for all applications targeting Kubernetes. This includes defining patterns for Blue/Green, Canary, Rolling Updates, and ensuring zero-downtime deployments.
  • Architect, design, and lead the overall implementation and continuous improvement of the company’s container infrastructure platform, ensuring its scalability, security, and performance.
  • Drive the evolution of our continuous delivery systems, designing and optimizing advanced CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, FluxCD, ArgoCD) with an emphasis on GitOps principles and fully automated, observable deployment processes.
  • Drive strategic cross-functional collaboration with other infrastructure and development teams, acting as a subject matter expert and technical lead to align on goals and deliver integrated solutions.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive observability solutions (monitoring, logging, tracing), defining key SLIs/SLOs and ensuring proactive alerting for critical production systems.
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex production incidents, acting as a primary escalation point and driving post-incident improvements.
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers on best practices for Kubernetes, cloud-native development, and DevOps methodologies, particularly in deployment excellence.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and integrate new technologies and tools to enhance our container ecosystem and operational efficiency.
  • Enforce and continuously improve security best practices within Kubernetes clusters, container images, and the overall cloud infrastructure.
  • Drive automation initiatives across the board to reduce manual effort and improve reliability.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in computer science, information technology/engineering or equivalent practical experience, with 5+ years of relevant experience in a DevOps, SRE, or Infrastructure Engineering role, with a strong focus on Kubernetes.
  • Proven track record of architecting, leading, and successfully implementing complex deployment strategies and rollout patterns (e.g., Canary, Blue/Green, Rolling Updates, A/B Testing) on Kubernetes.
  • Expert-level understanding and hands-on experience with Kubernetes architecture, networking (CNI), storage (CSI), security, and operational best practices, specifically related to advanced workload management and deployment.
  • Deep expertise in designing and optimizing robust CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, FluxCD, ArgoCD) and embracing GitOps workflows, with a focus on automation and reliability of deployments.
  • Strong proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
  • Extensive experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including advanced knowledge of their services related to containerization and infrastructure.
  • Advanced scripting and programming skills (e.g., Python, Go, Bash) for automation, tooling, and system integration.
  • Expert-level knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Datadog, Sysdig).
  • Solution-oriented mindset, strong communication skills, and comfort collaborating with team-mates and stakeholders working from around the globe.

Demonstrated experience with

  • Open-source projects and contributing to the community.
  • Microservices architecture, design patterns, and cloud-native development.
  • Complex event processing and event-driven architectures.
  • SDLC and Agile methodologies in a leadership capacity.
  • Linux internals and networking.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Kubernetes certifications (e.g., CKA, CKAD, CKS).
  • Experience with service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd) and their role in advanced traffic management and deployment strategies.
  • Experience with chaos engineering principles and tools.
  • Familiarity with compliance and governance frameworks.
