Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) seeks an exceptional academic leader to serve as the founding Vice Provost of its Mumbai Campus, the first U.S. university campus approved to operate in India.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, Illinois Tech India Pvt. Ltd., with dotted line to the Provost, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, the Vice Provost will serve as the chief academic and strategic leader for Illinois Tech Mumbai, responsible for building a world-class academic enterprise that integrates American innovation with Indian ambition. This role ensures academic excellence, fosters global industry partnerships, and drives the university’s mission to deliver experiential, career-connected learning aligned with Illinois Tech’s standards and accreditation frameworks.
The Vice Provost will bridge Illinois Tech’s global academic mission with its local implementation in India advancing a high-impact model of global education that connects students, faculty, and employers across continents.

Special Schedule Requirements EEOC Statement Education & Experience
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- 10–15 years of progressive academic leadership experience in higher education, preferably across global or transnational contexts.
Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstrated success in academic administration, curriculum innovation, accreditation, and faculty development.
- Proven ability to build and manage partnerships with corporations, government bodies, and international academic institutions.
- Deep understanding of U.S. higher education systems and accreditation, and familiarity with Indian higher education regulations (UGC, AICTE).
- Strong leadership, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of the financial dimensions of academic leadership, including budget management, resource allocation, and the economic implications of program design and delivery.
SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITY
Budget oversight for academic operations for the Mumbai campus. The role will be supervisory in nature overseeing all academic functions of the campus.

Academic Leadership and Strategy
Provide overall academic leadership for all programs offered at the Mumbai campus.
- Ensure alignment of curricula, learning outcomes, and quality standards with Illinois Tech Chicago and U.S. accreditation requirements.
- Ensure alignment of curricula, learning outcomes, and quality standards with Illinois Tech Chicago and U.S. Higher Learning Commission (HLC) accreditation requirements, while maintaining full compliance with all local University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations and reporting obligations.
- Lead academic planning, faculty development, and program innovation across disciplines.
- Champion interdisciplinary education and project-based learning as hallmarks of the Illinois Tech experience.
- Advance Illinois Tech’s experiential learning model by forging deep partnerships with industry and corporate ecosystems in India and globally, expanding applied learning pathways for students.
- Collaborate with the Illinois Tech Provost Office and Deans of the colleges to uphold academic integrity, governance, and institutional accreditation standards.
- Collaborate with administrative, enrollment, and partnership teams to ensure academic priorities are fully integrated into institutional goals.
- Represent Illinois Tech Mumbai in academic, corporate, and public forums to strengthen visibility and reputation.
- Contribute to the long-term strategic plan of Illinois Tech Global and its transnational education mission.
- Create a vibrant, inclusive, and student-centered academic environment that supports intellectual growth, leadership, and employability.
- Oversee academic advising, learning support, and co-curricular programs to enhance student outcomes.
- Ensure robust mechanisms for student engagement, feedback, and continuous improvement.

- Encourage faculty-led research, entrepreneurship, and industry collaboration.

- Advance Illinois Tech Mumbai’s research and innovation agenda through joint programs, global projects, and partnerships.

- Facilitate international faculty and student mobility, visiting scholars, and global academic partnerships.
- Promote applied research aligned with India’s industrial, societal, and technological priorities.
