Job Title: Quality Engineer

Job Description

As a Quality Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that customer requirements are fully understood and met. You will be responsible for resolving customer complaints, participating in customer presentations, and developing PPAP documentation. Your work will require close interaction with various departments to ensure product compliance with customer standards. In addition, you will prepare quality documentation and reports, providing technical expertise on quality and statistical matters.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with customers to ensure their requirements are met and resolve complaints.
  • Participate in customer presentations as necessary.
  • Develop PPAP documentation, including Process Flow Diagrams, FMEA, and Control Plans.
  • Ensure compliance with international standards such as IATF.
  • Prepare quality documentation by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data.
  • Provide technical expertise on quality standards, fastener standards, APQP, PPAP, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Lead improvement and problem-solving teams, supervising quality technicians as needed.
  • Prepare work instructions and lead Fast-Response team meetings.
  • Utilize the MRP system for lot traceability and tracking.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and service providers.
  • Conduct internal and supplier audits, report results, and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Interact with outside auditors during third-party and customer audits.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in machining and quality engineering.
  • Proficiency in PPAP, ISO standards, and IATF standards.
  • Experience with basic measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Understanding of statistical concepts, including normal distribution and SPC.
  • Experience in automotive PPAP processes, including Flow Diagram, FMEA, and Control Plan.
  • Proficiency in structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, DMAIC, and 5-Why analysis.
  • Experience in customer and supplier interactions.
  • Metals industry experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • ASQ, Six Sigma, or Lean certification.
  • Understanding of fastener manufacturing and testing standards.
  • Project and people supervision experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Work Environment

The Quality Engineer will frequently be present on the manufacturing floor, working closely with a quality team of 12 individuals. Interaction with customers and suppliers is a key aspect of the role. Travel to the Michigan facility a few days each week until the end of the year may be required, with hotel and mileage accommodations provided.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hudson, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $48.00/hr.
