Position Summary

This primary care nurse practitioner works with Minerva’s Mobile Health and nurse led clinics. A nationally certified and NC licensed NP will staff the mobile health sites and may assist with preceptor/supervising nursing students. The NP will serve as the primary care provider for diagnostic, screening, referral and follow-up clinical care. The NP will provide ongoing supervision, consultation, collaboration, and evaluation of the medical acts performed, according to the agreement with the backup supervising physician (NC statutes). In addition, they will work with the project director, other NPs, nurses, and mobile health staff to plan, develop, implement and evaluate the mobile health initiative including student education and training, partner activities, practice policies procedures and standards, and outreach activities in the rural and underserved communities. The NP is expected to work mostly independently and use professional expertise/judgement for day-to-day activities, to serve as a preceptor for nursing students, communicate regularly with the project director, other staff, and other team members and attend team meetings. The NP may be required to drive the mobile unit, and a valid NC Driver’s License is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s in Nursing
  • Unencumbered full license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in North Carolina, with prescriptive privileges.
  • Family Nurse Practitioner with experience in primary care
  • Ability to work with an intra and interprofessional health team that includes UNCG, SON and community partners and organizations.
  • Unencumbered NC Driver’s License

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a NP
  • Experience in primary care clinical practice with populations that are low income, rural and/or underserved.

Essential Tasks

  • Provide direct patient care for grant-related and student clinical learning as a demonstration project in Mobile Health.
  • Serve as a primary care provider for performing assessments, determining diagnosis, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, making referrals and determining follow-up clinical care for a wide variety of medical conditions across the lifespan.
  • Provide ongoing supervision, consultation, collaboration, and evaluation of the medical acts performed, according to the agreement with the backup supervising physician (NC statutes).
  • Care may be provided in a mobile unit on wheels or in episodic clinics in transitional settings in rural and medically underserved communities (MUCs) in the Piedmont region of North Carolina.
  • Provide patients, family and community members with education and counseling on medical diagnoses, evaluation and treatment, health maintenance and disease prevention.
  • Uses a variety of teaching techniques.

Essential Tasks

  • Assist Project Director and Project Manager with the evaluation of the mobile health initiative, daily data collection, and collaborate with the dissemination directly to partners and communities.
  • Identifies strategies and opportunities with the Cone Health and UNCG partnership to address social drivers of health (SDOH), promote health equity, reduce health disparities, and improve the health and well-being of the population. Documentation of mobile health outcomes.

  • Engage in public relations with faculty, students, sub agreement partnerships, and appropriate SON and campus offices, as well as community agencies for activities.
  • This includes providing information, awareness of grant needs and requirements, regular and appropriate communication (verbal, written, electronic), proactive communication, planning and organization of mobile unit activities.
  • This includes good interpersonal communication and relationships.
