As determined by DD2 Classified Salary Schedule (TA2 Scale)

LENGTH OF CONTRACT:

190 days

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma required.
  2. Must provide proof of the completion of a minimum of 60 college credit hours, OR in lieu of this, must pass the Para Professional Exam or the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test.

JOB SUMMARY:

To assist in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administers, scores, and records items such as achievement and diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacher for individual students.
  2. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  3. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  4. Plans and communicates with teacher(s) to organize activities and lessons.
  5. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  6. Assists students in mastering equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
  7. Distributes and collects materials assigned by teacher.
  8. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the teacher.
  9. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  10. Keeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up to date.
  11. Assists with large group activities.
  12. Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
  13. Assists students in the library, cafeteria, physical education, music, art and other electives as needed.
  14. Assist with academic assessments and assigned work as directed by the teacher.
  15. Checks and records student attendance.
  16. Collects and records collection of money for field trips, lunch, book orders, fundraisers, etc.
  17. Assists students with clothing needs as appropriate.
  18. Assists with lunch, snack and cleanup routines.
  19. Assists with wash-up and toilet routines.
  20. Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  21. Serves as the chief source of information and assistance to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the teacher.
  22. Maintains confidentiality and professional conduct in all interactions with students and staff.
  23. Participates in professional development, as assigned.
  24. Performs all other duties assigned.

EVALUATION:

There will be a written evaluation every third year, at a minimum, on the successful performance of job responsibilities.
