Job Description

PURPOSE

Directs and coordinates activities of the North American manufacturing facilities and leads in formulating and administering organization policies by performing the following duties personally or through all FMS North American Plant Managers and their teams.

SCOPE

Hutchinson FMS North America Plant Operations

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the plants. Takes strategic direction from the President & CEO and proposes appropriate tactics to meet the strategy. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws and in keeping with the approved tactics. Effectively reports performance and progress. Participates in month end and year end closing processes. The Industrial Operations Director will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee operations activities ensuring development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective systems including standardization & insuring appropriate commonality in practices within plants to meet current and future needs of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree Business Administration, Engineering, Manufacturing Industrialization, or equivalent; or ten to fifteen years related tier one supplier manufacturing operational experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have three years’ experience in upper management executive level capacity. Bi-Lingual English / Spanish preferred. French language skill is a secondary preference.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Establishes, implements, and communicates the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Visits all the plants and spends time on shop floors and with plant managers and other key personnel at the locations. Upon starting the position all plants must be visited over a 4-6 week period. Visits must be as frequent as required to optimize performance… minimum to visit 1or 2 plants per month without prior approval from President & CEO to reduce frequency.
  • Provides leadership in pursuit of continuous improvement in all health, environmental, and safety related areas, and strives to achieve zero lost time accidents.
  • Direct responsibility for operational costs impacting cash generation + profit and loss performance for the North American manufacturing locations.
  • Responsible to optimize the use of deployed capital.
  • Responsible to optimize capital spending while maximizing generation of cash + profits.
  • Strong role to influence other departments and optimize profits.
  • Participates in formulating and administering company policies and developing long range goals and objectives.
  • Reviews analysis of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine operational progress toward stated goals and objectives.
  • Confers with CEO/President and other senior personnel to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives resulting from performance, KPI status and conditions.
  • Services as member of executive management team.
  • Provides strategic direction of the organization's operations division.
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to develop and meet company goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations projects and systems.
  • Collaborates with other divisions and departments to carry out the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials.
  • Ensures that departmental decisions and project plans such as those for staffing, development, organization, material efficiency, hardware acquisitions, and facilities are in line with the organization's business plan and vision.
  • Presents periodic performance reports and metrics to the CEO and Executive Leadership.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in operations management.
  • Identifies training needs and ensures proper training is developed and provided.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Lead and insure development of plant managers and key plant personnel.
  • Serve as interim plant manager at any location if needed due to circumstances.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as algebra, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Computer Skills

Expert level excel, power point, and all Microsoft office applications. Must be familiar with internet research, outlook, teams, and presentations.
