The UCLA Undergraduate Education Initiatives unit seeks a lecturer to teach Spring 2026 in Academic Year 2025-26 for a lower division undergraduate course as part of the General Education UCLA Cluster Program. This position entails designing and teaching a seminar on a topic related to the interconnected themes of food, environment, and sustainability. The Cluster Environment M1 introduces students to key themes related to food and sustainability, such as the connections between food and the environment, between food and climate change, between food and culture, between food and social unrest and inequity, between food and politics and history, between food and technology.
For the spring quarter, the teaching team is especially interested in seminars on food and hunger in ancient Greece and Rome, especially on the ways in which Graeco-Roman literature can generate new perspectives on, and in turn be illuminated by, contemporary discourses around hunger, food, and sustainability. We encourage applications from instructors who are able to integrate writing pedagogy in their syllabi.
UCLA has a diverse student population in one of the more diverse cities in the nation; we particularly seek candidates who have taught similarly diverse students in a major research university.
