Why does the job exist?

This Accountant position serves NMBHI's primary liaison with multiple entities to ensure maximization of reimbursement for all nursing home residents, psychiatric clients and residential treatment care clients under the Medicaid programs by providing assistance and support in verifying clientele benefits and entering into financial database, processing Medicaid Nursing Facility Level of Cares for continuation of benefits and serve as support person for treatment team members and outside agencies needing assistance with problem solving and training with procedures and requirements set by insurance companies to provide a smooth process.

How does it get done?

  • Complete medicaid nursing facility level of care on initials, readmits, continued stays, Medicaid pending, re-reviews and reconsiderations to ensure maximization of reimbursement for nursing home residentsMaintain and balance a cash drawer and petty cash fund, balancing daily. Document financial transactions on a daily log and prepare purchase order for replenishment of funds.
  • Maintain tickler file and track all assessment nursing facility level of care to ensure payment for services rendered and that days are approved.
  • Ensure patient trust reports are mailed to all nursing home guardians, who are plenary or conservator guardians, on a quarterly basis.
  • Verify demographical information and verify benefits with Social Security Administration and Medicaid for psychiatric units, residential treatment unit and forensic clientele. Enter benefits into billing profiles on the Avatar database. Audit admission face sheets for accuracy for treatment team accessibility

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is self-motivated and takes a positive and professional approach to their role. This candidate has a business or accounting related educational background; has demonstrated analytical and communication skill; is well organized; and has an aptitude for administrative management and financial operations. The ideal candidate has a working knowledge of the AVATAR database. This candidate has excellent time management skills with the ability to work in a heavy volume environment with multiple and diverse groups of clients and is a confident communicator.

Experience in providing excellent customer service;

Experience with building strong/productive working relationships;

Experience with conflict resolution and and interacting with the public;

Experience with organizing daily operations and providing feedback to senior management.

Minimum Qualification

High School or Equivalency and two (2) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance, and/or budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
