Why does the job exist?

This position will develop, manage, and evaluate the delivery of a variety of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs; collaborate with the medical, mental health, substance use disorder counselors, contract providers, nursing and sworn staff to address the full spectrum of patient care; and ensure the appropriate transition of care occurs with the community.

Preferred Bachelor's degrees in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Addiction Counseling or Treatment. Required license (LCSW), (LPCC) OR (LADAC) in the State of New Mexico.

How does it get done?

  • Oversees, develops, and implements work plans to ensure patient treatment goals are met and completed on time.
  • Works closely with leadership team, Continuous Quality Improvement program, clinical, contract providers and sworn administration to establish approaches and timelines for processes.
  • Manages and ensures consistency in reporting data and outcome information.
  • Participates in decision making and provides recommendations to the leadership team based on program evaluation and evidence-based research.
  • Maintains strong customer relations by ensuring the quality of activities and projects, timely completion of tasks, and ongoing efforts to collaborate.
  • Develops and utilizes performance indicators to report effectiveness of entire program evaluation function.
  • Supervises assigned staff which includes hiring, orienting, training, assigning and reviewing work performance, annual work performance appraisal, and taking disciplinary action.
  • Provides administrative support and leadership to ensure effective team management within the designated budget.
  • Conducts substance use assessments on State-mandated/ordered criminal justice jail held prisoners, as well as New Mexico Department of Corrections inmates, develops, documents, and implements treatment plans.
  • Provides direct treatment and case management services.
  • Works with prisoners, families, health care providers, and security staff to provide an appropriate level of patient care.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

  • The delivery of substance use treatment services
  • A broad range of substance use, mental health, social service and health issues
  • Effective interviewing skills and evaluation techniques
  • Crisis intervention techniques
  • General personality theories
  • Principles of behavior modification
  • Supervisory experience

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Statutory Requirements:

All applicants for this position must be licensed as an independently licensed Social Worker (LCSW), Mental Health Therapist (LPCC), or Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADAC) in the State of New Mexico.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with inmates. May be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
