We’re looking for a creative and strategic Manager, Social Media and Online Engagement, to lead our digital storytelling and community engagement
About the Role
The Manager, Social Media and Online Engagement drives the University’s digital presence and reputation through strategic content, thought leadership, and impactful campaigns that engage diverse audiences across social platforms.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and deliver content strategies that amplify the University’s research, expertise, innovations, and impact
- Curate and share content that positions the University as a thought leader across academic, social, and professional domains
- Promote the University’s contributions via social media, especially LinkedIn
- Align social media efforts with broader brand and recruitment campaigns, showcasing programs, campus life, and student success
- Advise stakeholders on social media best practices, content creation, and campaign strategy
- Collaborate with communications leaders to produce and share engaging media and Lighthouse content
- Lead and support a team of social media professionals to ensure consistent, high-quality output
- Manage reputational risk and issue response across social platforms
- Oversee the University’s primary social media channels and community engagement
- Monitor and report on social media metrics to refine strategy and optimise performance
- Stay current with social media, digital marketing, and higher education trends to enhance strategy
- Ensure compliance with EEO and WHS regulations
- Perform other duties as required within the scope of the role

Selection Criteria:
- Extensive experience in digital content strategy, journalism, communications or public affairs, with exceptional editorial and strategic thinking skills and a strong track record of producing or overseeing content that engages, informs, influences, provide clarity and builds trust.
- Strong understanding of the digital media landscape, including social media dynamics, audience behaviour, content analytics, and digital publishing platforms.
- Proven ability to lead high-performing teams and manage diverse digital content portfolios.
- Skilled in delivering strategic, multi-channel communications whilst effectively balancing creative vision with operational execution and risk awareness.
- Experience working with senior executives on public-facing content including profile building and thought leadership.
- Strategic, collaborative and agile, with a strong commitment to delivering high quality output and building effective working relationships.
- A passion for storytelling that drives public understanding, policy influence and institutional pride.
- Not required in EOI, use if advertising internally/externally] Knowledge of the higher education sector, including the role of universities in research, innovation, and social impact, and experience with student communications is highly desirable.
