Model Shop Machinist Opportunity

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Shift: 1st Shift (Monday–Friday)

Pay Rate: $25–$28/hr

Job Summary

Nesco Resource is seeking a skilled Precision Machinist for a 1st shift opportunity with its aerospace client in Phoenix, AZ, working on a Makino line. This role requires a minimum of three years of experience in the aerospace industry, with expertise in fixture and tooling design, manufacturing capabilities, and precision machining. The ideal candidate will demonstrate adaptability, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work from drawings or prints to set up and operate advanced machinery.

Responsibilities

• Conduct precision work using lathes, CNC mills (CNCM/CNCL), milling machines, precision grinding machines, saws, and heat-treatment processes for tool steels.
• Design basic fixtures with minimal engineering assistance and perform advanced master programming for CNC-controlled machines.
• Set up and operate equipment, leveraging knowledge of milling, turning, grinding, heat-treating, brazing, and general shop math.
• Occasionally produce quick-turn fixtures without engineering support, utilizing on-the-fly fixture design and OEM detail procurement skills.
• Interpret drawings or prints to ensure accurate machining and assembly.
• Adapt to semi-conventional machine tools and troubleshoot issues effectively.

Requirements

• Minimum of three years of experience in the aerospace industry.
• Hands-on knowledge of manufacturing processes including milling, turning, grinding, heat-treating, brazing, and shop math.
• Proficiency with CNC tool room machines featuring CNC controls.
• Ability to learn quickly, follow instructions, and exhibit natural mechanical and problem-solving aptitude.
• Familiarity with fixture and tooling design, with optimal skills in on-the-fly fixture creation and OEM procurement (though most fixtures are engineered and detailed per specifications).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Mastercam programming.
