Key Accountabilities:

Database Administration and Maintenance

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and patch supported database systems (Oracle 10g–19c, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL Server).
  • Perform database and schema refresh operations using native tools (e.g., Oracle exp/imp, Expdp/Impdp; pgdump/pgrestore; SQL Server backup/restore).
  • Implement database change orders according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Monitor database performance and availability using platform-specific tools (e.g., Oracle Enterprise Manager, pgAdmin, SSMS).
  • Document database policies, procedures, and standards for organizational compliance.

Backup, Recovery, and Performance Management

  • Execute backup, restore, and recovery operations using RMAN (Oracle), pgBackRest/Barman (PostgreSQL), or native SQL Server tools.
  • Perform SQL tuning and indexing strategies to optimize query performance.
  • Utilize performance monitoring tools such as AWR/ADDM (Oracle), pgstatstatements (PostgreSQL), or SQL Profiler (SQL Server).
  • Troubleshoot database and performance issues to minimize system downtime.
  • Maintain and support standby or high-availability configurations for disaster recovery.

Infrastructure Support and Collaboration

  • Administer platform-specific technologies such as Oracle ASM/RAC, PostgreSQL replication, or SQL Server Always On Availability Groups.
  • Perform basic system administration tasks on UNIX/Linux (Oracle/PostgreSQL) or Windows Server (SQL Server).
  • Coordinate with system administrators, network teams, and backup teams as required.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide database perspective and technical input.
  • Support clinical research applications through reliable and secure database infrastructure.

System Integration and Technical Support

  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure seamless integration of database systems with enterprise applications.
  • Provide technical expertise for database-related aspects of system implementations and migrations.
  • Maintain database security and access controls in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Support application teams with database connectivity and performance issues.
  • Ensure database systems meet availability and compliance requirements for clinical research operations.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in any two of the following: Oracle RDBMS (10g–19c), PostgreSQL, or MS SQL Server.
  • Experience with monitoring and management tools relevant to the supported platform.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery procedures using platform-specific tools.
  • Expertise in SQL tuning, indexing, and performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with high-availability and disaster recovery technologies.
  • Basic UNIX/Linux or Windows Server administration skills depending on platform.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation practices.
  • Time management and prioritization capabilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure during system outages.
  • Customer service orientation when supporting internal users.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 7–10 years of experience in database administration in any two of the following: Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL Server.
  • Experience with installation, upgrade, patching, and migration processes.
  • Hands-on experience with backup and recovery operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in SQL performance tuning and optimization.
  • Experience working in high-availability and disaster recovery environments.
  • Knowledge of database refresh and migration procedures.
  • Experience coordinating with system administration and network teams.
  • Familiarity with operating systems relevant to the supported platform.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Relevant certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), PostgreSQL certification, or Microsoft SQL Server certifications preferred.
