Job Summary
Assist surgical team before, during, and after surgery.
Job Responsibilities
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Opens, readies, and maintains sterile field for each surgical case.
- Passes instruments, assists with retractors.
- Provides relief to other staff as appropriate.
- Troubleshoots equipment as appropriate.
- Exhibits a commitment of exemplary customer service.
- Participates in the communication network with appropriate members of the health care team.
- Counts sponges, needles, and instruments as required throughout surgical procedure.
- Displays competency for age specific persons from newborn to geriatrics.
- Participates in precepting surgical tech students and new employees.
- Displays competency for the Surgical Technologist role as evidenced in the annual performance appraisal following the FHN PRIDE Standards.
Job Requirements
Education: Graduate of Surgical Technological Program or related on the job training with six to twelve months related experience. Associate’s degree preferred.

- Surgical Technologist Certificate preferred.
- BLS required
