JOB SUMMARY:
The Manufacturing Engineer reports to an Engineering Manager and works in unison with assembly production supervisors to plan, coordinate, and improve manufacturing processes for all of PS&S. This position is responsible for developing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods; utilizing knowledge of product designs, materials, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards. In addition, the Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for analyzing and developing work force utilization standards/plans, space requirements, and workflow, along with designing the layouts of equipment and workspaces for maximum efficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

- Review and approve engineering to reduce cost, improve manufacturability, reduce and simplify assembly steps, and improve the quality of new and/or existing designs.
- Utilize Lean manufacturing methodology to lead problem-solving and Kaizen activities intended to identify and eliminate waste (NVA) within department processes or supporting processes, evaluate possible root cause, determine solutions, and develop an overall plan and action list on a yearly basis, in particular those related to assembly build processes.
- Assist production supervisors in identifying process improvements, developing work instructions, prototype manufacturing improvements, and employ appropriate data collection methods.
- Perform capital equipment studies and provide recommendations. Collaborate with production supervisors as required in order to draw conclusions and gain buy-in.
- Lead performance of direct labor studies using acceptable engineering practices to establish standards on optimal operations, setup, and work station layout.
- Analyze and evaluate manufacturing methods and standards. Work with team members to provide solutions to problems that adversely affect operator safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
- Review assembly design change requests, develop ECR’s, and establish specific standard requirements / guidelines for design engineering in response to repetitive issues within cells.
- Work with assembly to identify ownership of inventory location, quantity, and supporting processes; along with tools, materials and supplies required in the manufacturing process.
- Assist DEEP in developing training materials and develop methods to train employees on new manufacturing processes.
- Research, benchmark, and identify alternative manufacturing methods and processes.
- Communicate with all internal and external customers in a respectful and professional manner.
- Promote positive communications between management and employees.
- Develop proactive working relationships with other departments to address root causes of shared problems and generate “win-win” solutions.
- Lead by example; must be positive, consistent, impartial, and fair with all employees and show positive enforcement of all company policies and standards.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 3 years experience in the field or related area preferred.
- Requires experience with Lean processes and methods in a manufacturing environment
