The Team

The Analog Devices International (ADI) Limerick Failure Analysis (FA) Team as part of the wider Quality and Global Failure Analysis group are responsible for providing analysis services & systems to support new product/technology development from the ADI Ireland site. We define the failure analysis flow, seeking detection of the failure mechanism which leads to solving the root cause of our customer’s issue. As part of Failure Analysis Centre of Excellence, we lead failure analysis and characterisation for several leading-edge development projects within ADI.

Job Description

A vacancy has currently opened within the Quality Group for a Failure Analysis Materials Lab Technician to support Failure Analysis equipment & new product development. The job will entail working closely with internal teams to support development process cycles of IC/novel materials devices via materials analysis and characterisation using a wide variety of failure analysis tools & techniques.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Support FA materials Lab Service request system
  • Maintenance and Calibration of FA lab-based tools to ensure system uptime and efficiency. Leasing with vendors and support teams. (Fault localisation systems, SEM/FIB systems, sample preparation & inspection tools)
  • Provide 2D/3D X-Ray analysis
  • Cross sectioning of Silicon/IC’s/packages via mechanical polishing systems
  • Chemical Wet-bench IC decapsulation & Operation of Laser Decapsulation system
  • Complete SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) microscopy analysis & elemental analysis (EDX)
  • Cross sectioning of Silicon/IC’s via Dual Beam and Plasma FIB Systems
  • FIB (Focus Ion Beam) circuit edits on development silicon
  • STEM/TEM Microscopy analysis
  • Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) Analysis
  • Compile reports detailing analysis work completed & coordinate calibration of FA equipment
  • Help develop new methodologies for the analysis and inspection of novel devices and materials.
  • Liaising with other FA materials teams around the globe to support key projects.
  • Mentoring and consultation with other lab/equipment users in relation to IC & materials analysis and characterisation.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement, Lean manufacturing, 6S, Operational excellence
  • & problem-solving activities.

Key Qualifications

  • BSC/BEng (NFQ level 7/8) in Electronic Engineering, Physics/Applied Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry or related discipline with relevant industry experience an advantage
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an aptitude for hands-on work; Semiconductor/ materials analysis and characterisation experience would be a distinct advantage.
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills with the ability to multi-task many projects and set priorities, work to targets and process flows.
  • Flexibility to handle sudden changes to priorities and learn new skills in development environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in progress and complete on time
  • High energy and motivation to work both individually and as part of a team

Full training will be provided as required on hiring
