As a key member of IA’s Design Intelligence team, the Design Technology Specialist – Education & Training plays a pivotal role in strengthening the firm’s digital design capabilities through both technology implementation and education. This position combines direct technical expertise with a passion for teaching and leading initiatives that improve workflows, enhance software proficiency, and elevate the overall digital experience for design teams.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Digital Technologies, this role serves as a firmwide resource responsible for supporting the deployment and use of IA’s design technology platforms, particularly Revit and associated tools, while designing and delivering training that promotes continuous learning and adoption across the firm. The ideal candidate is an engaging communicator who thrives on empowering others through both practical problem-solving and structured education.

Job Responsibilities

Technology Implementation & Support

  • Partner with project teams and Design Intelligence leadership to implement firmwide digital design standards, workflows, and templates.
  • Provide technical support and guidance for software such as Revit, AutoCAD, BIM 360/ACC, Bluebeam, and associated IA add-ins.
  • Troubleshoot workflow challenges and propose scalable solutions that enhance efficiency and consistency across studios.
  • Assist in the testing, evaluation, and rollout of innovative technologies, tools, and Revit add-ins, ensuring alignment with IA standards.
  • Document best practices and contribute to the development of internal technology resources and process documentation.

Education & Training

  • Develop and deliver engaging educational programs focused on digital design tools, workflows, and IA technology platforms.
  • Lead topical webinars, training sessions, and workshops that strengthen core and advanced Revit skill sets.
  • Manage Revit skill assessments for new hires and existing staff, coordinating supplemental training as needed.
  • Oversee IA’s Revit Fundamentals program in partnership with external training vendors.
  • Inspire and assist with studio-based Revit User Group (RUG) sessions, fostering knowledge sharing and community building.
  • Maintain and update training materials to reflect software advancements and evolving firm standards.
  • Create documentation, videos, and self-guided learning modules to support ongoing professional development.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with Design Intelligence and other corporate teams to align education initiatives with technology strategy and deployment.
  • Engage with project leaders, studio staff, and management to identify technology adoption opportunities and learning priorities.
  • Provide exceptional customer service when supporting users, demonstrating patience, clarity, and responsiveness.
  • Champion a culture of digital curiosity, learning, and innovation across IA.

Education & Work Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field required.
  • Equivalent experience in design technology implementation or education may be considered.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience utilizing Revit for architectural or interior design project work.
  • Proven experience in software implementation, standards development, or digital workflow support.
  • Experience in creating and delivering training content, webinars, or instructional materials preferred.
  • Familiarity with design technology ecosystems including AutoCAD, BIM 360/ACC, Bluebeam, and Revit add-ins such as Ideate Tools, UNIFI, or Guardian.
  • Prior experience with user enablement or mentoring in a professional setting is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

System Knowledge

  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and related BIM tools.
  • Knowledge of supporting platforms such as AutoCAD, BIM 360/ACC, and Bluebeam.
  • Familiarity with add-ins and management tools (Guardian, Ideate, UNIFI) preferred.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot both technical and workflow challenges.

Working Conditions

Design Intelligence team members primarily work remotely, with the option to work from any IA studio. Preferred time zones include Pacific, Mountain, or Central. Occasional travel may be required for studio visits, training sessions, or industry conferences.
