Please note: The salary range above represents this position’s earning potential. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $83,556 to $134,086, based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

WHO WE ARE

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is made up of approximately 1,300 sworn officers and approximately 650 support personnel. The Police Department was established in 1922, and today is responsible for providing service to a County with a population of over one million people.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Has knowledge of the operations, rules, regulations and procedures related to a law enforcement agency and its operations, practices, and information management systems.
  • Has extensive knowledge of criminal investigation principles, techniques, and procedures.

  • Can effectively communicate orally and in writing to exchange and/or present information.
  • Can develop and recommend improvements in procedures from data studies and lessons learned.
  • Can learn and operate emerging technologies/software related to crime and intelligence analysis and real time operations.
  • Can establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

What You'll Be Doing

The Real Time Information Center (RTIC) Professional Staff Supervisor is a supervisory position responsible for overseeing the daily operations and performance of employees assigned to the Unit. This role ensures the timely collection, analysis, and dissemination of critical real-time data and intelligence to support field operations, investigations, and public safety initiatives. The supervisor will coordinate with professional staff and sworn personnel, other County departments, and external partners to enhance situational awareness and operational effectiveness for the Police Department.

Duties include:

  • Provides overall direction to the unit and ongoing program development and evaluation including hiring, prioritizing and assigning work, training and mentoring staff, providing feedback, conducting performance evaluations, and recommending disciplinary actions.
  • Oversee the intake, analysis, and distribution of real-time data, including video feeds, automated license plate reader (ALPR) alerts, CAD data, and other intelligence sources.
  • Ensure employees adhere to department policies, data privacy standards, and operational protocols.
  • Coordinate with sworn and professional staff employees to align intelligence support with operational priorities.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for RTIC functions.
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Monitor and report on RTIC performance metrics and recommend improvements.
  • Serve as a liaison to other County agencies, fusion centers, and regional intelligence partners.
  • Support special events, critical incidents, and emergency operations with real-time intelligence coordination.
  • Maintain proficiency in RTIC-related technologies, software platforms, and data systems.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Applicants must have the ability to:

  • Pass a comprehensive background investigation conducted by the MCPD. (8 week process)
  • Pass a medical examination and a drug/alcohol screen.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Three (3) years of experience in a law enforcement, criminal investigation, intelligence, emergency operations or field directly related to the assignment and at least one year of supervisory experience.

Education: A Bachelor's Degree with a major in police science, criminal justice, criminology, sociology or a closely related field.

Substitutions: An advanced degree and/or additional experience in the use of databases and sophisticated analytics tools, geographic information systems (GIS) and software similar to that used by the County may be substituted for experiential or educational requirements.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

1. Experience collecting, collating and analyzing crime data and information, both real-time and historical, to develop options and/or logical conclusions to difficult issues to ensure the timely dissemination of intelligence to support field operations, investigations and public safety initiatives.

2. Experience with the criminal justice system, including an understanding of criminal investigation techniques and law enforcement investigation reporting procedures.

3. Significant experience with advanced skill in the utilization of information technology tools, (e.g., Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint, desktop publishing, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, Microsoft Power BI), Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, Automated License Place Recognition (ALPR) systems, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or video management systems.

4. Experience developing and modifying Standard Operating Procedures, basic training standards for incoming employees and protocols for conducting daily business, especially within a Real Time Crime Center.

5. Experience supervising or mentoring lower grade or entry level employees through review of work products, training in professional techniques and software programs, and/or serving as a manager when needed.

Our generous leave package starts with non-MLS permanent and term employees earning 15 days of sick leave and 15 days of annual leave in their first year, as well as up to three additional personal days each calendar year.
