Head of Department, Project Management and Structures – Life Science & Pharma

Ramboll

Company DescriptionJob Description

Do you want to lead an exciting department that works for some of Denmark’s largest pharmaceutical companies? If so, you might be our new Head of Department for Ramboll’s Life Science & Pharma department for project management and structures in Copenhagen.

Life Science & Pharma is experiencing growth, and we see a pipeline that will keep us very busy both in the short and long term. The demand for our services is global, and the strategic responsibility for driving this growth journey is anchored here in Denmark. We are currently delivering assignments for, among others, Novozymes, Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies, and Novo Nordisk.

You will join the Life Science & Pharma leadership team as one of five Heads of Department who collectively lead the area across all disciplines. We have a strong collaborative culture among the leaders, and you will continuously spar with your new colleagues on both leadership tasks and project challenges.

Our organization operates with one bottom line, and we take pride in leveraging each other’s experience and professional expertise. In doing so, we have succeeded in breaking down the silos often seen between disciplines.

Leadership as a focus

You will lead a department of more than 20 project managers, structural engineers and BIM specialists, and. We have several senior advisors on the team and continuously staff up to ensure that our clients have access to the best expertise in the industry.

Project management is the most important part of this role, and you will set the direction for our project management practices and governance. Day-to-day technical sparring for the structures team is handled by a dedicated team lead within the department. We work with new builds, conversions, and renovations of production facilities (GMP), laboratories, and the various structures needed on a production site.

We are often involved in all phases of a project—from the earliest ideas before an assignment becomes a formal project, through design, contractor selection, site supervision during execution, and final handover.

Our wider organizational context:

  • We are part of Ramboll’s Life Science & Pharma in Denmark and also belong to the Global Service Line Life Science & Pharma, collaborating closely with colleagues in Sweden and the UK.
  • We are part of Ramboll’s Global Buildings division, comprising more than 4,000 colleagues worldwide.
  • This setup allows us to work seamlessly across disciplines, geographies, and markets—we are not only breaking down silos; we are taking down borders.

Our projects are multidisciplinary, as Ramboll typically covers all disciplines, including architecture and construction management. This gives you a varied workday, strong opportunities to challenge yourself both as a leader and professionally, and a broad network among colleagues, partners, and clients.

To succeed as our new Head of Department, it is important that you have a deep interest in promoting, developing, and motivating a team. You should have solid business acumen and the ability to deliver results through people. And last but not least, you must be able to take responsibility for the department’s strategic direction and ensure that we continue to deliver high quality to our clients.

Your key responsibilities

  • Set the direction for project management in Life Science & Pharma Copenhagen and drive continuous improvement of our PM methods, governance, and tools.
  • Act as project owner on key engagements and participate in (and when relevant chair) project steering committees with clients and partners.
  • Be an active member of the Life Science & Pharma leadership team.
  • Be a sparring partner for your colleagues and ensure the development of the department’s competency level. Note: day-to-day technical sparring for the structures discipline is supported by Senior members in the department.
  • Follow up on deliverables and lead the effort to raise the quality of our services from project to project.
  • Build and further develop client relationships and be responsible for major proposals.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with our preferred contractors and ensure that our projects are buildable, flexible, and able to meet short construction schedules.

Your starting point for constant development

From your first day at Ramboll, we support your personal and professional career goals through sparring, networks, and training. We expect your starting point to include:

  • A strong track record in project management of complex building/industrial facility projects, ideally within the life sciences/pharma sector.
  • A practical approach to leadership in a consultancy, where empathy is a key parameter and talent development is a primary focus.
  • Solid customer understanding and strong negotiation skills that enable you to translate needs and requirements into valuable projects for clients, society, and Ramboll.
  • The ability to establish and develop client relationships.
  • Appreciation for interdisciplinary collaboration and the ability to communicate effectively in both Danish and English, in writing and speech.
  • A desire to help move the construction industry forward in terms of digitalization.
