Overview

Center for Climate, Health, and Healthcare (CCHH)

The Center for Climate, Health, and Healthcare is on a mission to improve the health and healthcare of people and communities in New Jersey, nationally, and globally by combatting the climate health crisis through research, education, and community-oriented climate action. This groundbreaking center is a collaboration between Rutgers Health and RWJBarnabas Health, physically based within the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research.

With leadership from Rutgers Health and RWJBarnabas Health and partnerships throughout the state and beyond, the Center for Climate, Health, and Healthcare is empowered to engage in research, education, and programmatic activities to address climate change specifically from the perspectives of health and healthcare.

Climate Health Expertise

Backed by the state’s largest academic and healthcare system, we have a unique opportunity to bring together discovery and implementation, coupled with clinical and social services, to directly influence current practices for the benefit of our patients, communities, and planetary health.

Impactful Science

More evidence is needed for communities, patients, healthcare systems, and clinicians to respond to the climate health crisis and contribute to mitigation strategies. Our researchers are working to define key challenges and identify more sustainable solutions. We are also launching a Geospatial Data Core, offering affiliated researchers the data, training, and technical support they need to identify successful strategies for reducing healthcare-related emissions and improving population health.

Building Bridges

Our goal is for this comprehensive, interdisciplinary center to be core to New Jersey’s climate health agenda and bridge institutions, programs, and people to address the climate health crisis within and outside of Rutgers University and RWJBarnabas Health locally, nationally, and globally.
