Overview
The Prototype Specialist works in BMA Engineering Teams, reporting directly to the BMA CAD Manager and will engage and support the Prototyping build for new product development from global location, transition to BISSELL Malaysia (BMA). This position requires machinist skills and Additive Manufacturing (AM) knowledge as well as coordination and communication skills to ensure the Prototype Operation runs smoothly. Key responsible is to ensure prototyping activities in BISSELL Malaysia runs smoothly and respond to the demand and needs.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining and executing prototype request tasks and assisting Product Development Team in both Engineering & Prototype Lab aspect.
- Operate AM Machines, conventional milling machines, and perform basic maintenance.
- Responsible for ensuring all machines are up and running at specific standard.
- Set up and read through the programming, as well as make program alterations or troubleshoot on minor error encountered.
- Control and ensure all functions operate properly to achieve high quality hardware as per standard time set.
- Receive and check CAD files, ensuring files are to correct scale, size within constraints of the chosen AM technology, and in printable condition.
- Scheduling and prioritizing files for printing; files can be submitted by any design group.
- Expected to be able to interpret CAD Drawings and technical work instructions.
- Inspect parts dimensions and geometry as per Drawing and technical work instructions.
- Co-ordinate with support engineers/ tool re-grinder/ tool rectification supplier for machine maintenance.
- May be require operating one or any combination of the following equipment including grinding, cutting, drilling, etc.
- Initiate & implement continuous improvement activities Kaizen and 5S to improve Productivity, Quality and Safety in BMA PDE labs.
- Perform workshop administrative tasks for BMA PDE labs, such as consumables records and purchasing, tools and equipment records, equipment maintenance scheduling, 5S, safety audits, etc.
- Design and manufacture jigs & fixtures for product development, production, and prototyping.
- Understand the list, catalog, and its applications of standard parts.
- Contribute to safety documentation & presentation, work procedure and audit for BMA PD&E labs.
- Coordinate and manage team tasks based on project urgency and resource availability.
- Make recommendations to the team on the prototypes method and technology to achieve workable and reliable prototype samples for various product development validation.

Required Experience / Education:
- The candidate must possess at least a Diploma in Mechanical / Manufacturing engineering.
- More than 8 years of experience in machining/prototyping or any other similar industry.
- Expert in AM Machines such as FDM, SLA, SLS, etc.
- Expert in perform Vacuum Casting method as Additive Manufacturing.
- Vast experience in Conventional Milling and lathe.
- Experience in operating CO2 laser cut machine.
- Knowledgeable in the setup, programming CAM or CNC codes & Operate CNC Lathe/Vertical/Horizontal machining centers for performing machining work.
- Able to use measuring tools (e.g., calipers) to take accurate measurements.
- Practical experience in AM technology and post-processes will be an added advantage.
- Possessing good and vast experience in model making and usage of Hand Tools is a must.
- Understanding the concept of 5S concepts.
- Strong team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of the properties and application of plastic, metal, and other material.
- Ability to read technical drawings and manuals.
- Diligent, hardworking, and able to work in a fast pace working environment.
