The Control Room Operator ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the 761MW natural gas-fired, combined-cycle Keys Energy Center. Following plant procedures and Senior Operations Supervisor directives, the operator exercises judgment in the absence of specific instructions, adhering to safety and environmental policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor combustion turbines, auxiliary equipment, and control room systems safely and efficiently.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and implement emergency procedures as needed.
- Record and analyze data from meters, gauges, and monitoring systems.
- Communicate plant conditions clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Train operators and ensure shift maintenance tasks are completed.
- Operate computer systems (e.g., Siemens T3000, Ovation) for data analysis and input.
- Work rotating shifts, respond to 24/7 callouts, and perform physical tasks (standing, climbing, squatting).
- Perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications and Skills
- 3+ years operating Aeroderivative combustion turbines.
- Experience with Siemens T3000 and Ovation control systems.
- Engineering background (college or military training).
- Strong technical, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work independently and in teams, handling confidential information discreetly.
Preferred Skills
- Maryland Grade 1 Stationary Engineer License.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Physical Requirements
- Perform tasks involving standing, walking, climbing, and squatting.
- Discern verbal and auditory signals from control panels.
