About Us

SportsDock is the flagship UEL sports facility, opened in early 2012, and is one of the largest indoor sports facilities in East London. The sports centre has recently undergone a £500,000 investment and includes two sports arenas, a large fitness facility, Optimal Zone functional room, dance studio and an outdoor 3g football pitch. SportsDock is open 7 days a week, 362 days per year, and is a fantastic resource for Students, Staff and the Local Community. It also boasts a very diverse activity programme and hosts regular sports clubs and national and international events. Our Workforce Programme and through a range of placement opportunities we help to inspire young people to be healthy and active. About the Job

The SportsDock Graduate Fitness Instructor role at the University of East London involves delivering high-quality customer service, fitness guidance, and exercise programmes within the SportsDock facility. The position focuses on supporting members’ health and fitness goals, maintaining the gym’s operations and safety, and contributing to UEL’s wider “Vision 2028” initiatives through community engagement and activity promotion.

Candidate will be expected, but not limited to:

  • provide guidance to members/visitors of UEL SportsDock, providing excellent customer care, inductions and exercise/ lifestyle programmes as required.
  • provide a first-class customer service at UEL SportsDock, greeting customers and ‘walking the floor’ interacting with customers throughout the shifts correcting form and encouraging participation in classes.
  • undertake cleaning and maintenance duties regularly throughout each shift.
  • monitor access to the facility to ensure that only bona fide customers/visitors use the fitness centre.
  • assist in the delivery of exercise classes and support the Health and Fitness Centre Manager and Senior Fitness Instructor.
  • Use expert knowledge of current health and fitness trends to add value to members experience at SportsDock and help them attain their goals.

About You

The ideal candidate is a graduate in Sport and Exercise Science or a related field with at least a Level 2 Gym/Fitness Instructor qualification (Level 3 PT desirable). They should have some hands-on experience in a fitness or leisure setting, strong communication skills, and a customer-focused approach. This fixed-term role is ideal for someone looking to further develop their knowledge and practical skills within a professional leisure environment while contributing to members’ health and wellbeing.
