CLASS DEFINITION
A Safety Enforcement Officer III investigates and enforces the occupational safety and health hazard rules and regulations at City work sites and schedules, assigns and reviews the case work of safety enforcement officers. Work of this class involves leading Safety Enforcement Officers but does not involve full supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek which may include evening, weekend and flexible hours. Work is performed at various work sites throughout City government where there are unsafe or unhealthy conditions. Work may require moderate physical exertion including bending, stretching and climbing ladders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
EDUCATION: Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have four years of experience in the investigation and enforcement of occupational safety and health and vehicular regulations in the workplace.
OR
NOTES EQUIVALENCIES: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
AND
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required.

Background Check

Probation
All people, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
Eligibility
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education Accreditation
Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
Selection Process
All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. Examination Process
