Associate Director, Competitive Intelligence

The Associate Director, Competitive Intelligence (CI) will be part of a growing innovative team responsible for delivering actionable competitive insights to support strategic decision-making for both inline products and a late-stage pipeline asset. The Associate Director will partner closely with cross-functional teams, including Commercial, Medical, and R&D to reduce decision risk, and inform portfolio and product strategy. This role will be based in our Waltham office and work a Hybrid office schedule.

Responsibilities:

CI for Inline Products

Monitor and analyze competitor activities and anticipate market shifts (e.g., marketing, pricing, clinical data, regulatory changes) to assess impact on company’s commercial portfolio.

Develop and maintain competitor profiles to support commercial teams and field force

Deliver regular updates and alerts to stakeholders on market dynamics, competitor tactics, and threats/opportunities.

Support lifecycle management by identifying white space opportunities and competitive risks.

CI for Late-Stage Pipeline Product

Lead deep-dive assessments on emerging competitors, clinical pipelines, MOAs, and therapeutic area trends.

Contribute to opportunity assessments, forecasting inputs, and go/no-go decisions for a pipeline asset.

Support launch planning with competitive scenarios and differentiated positioning analysis.

Strategic Business Partnership

Quickly become an expert in assigned therapy areas, related commercial products, and any potential new markets to ensure accurate data interpretation and become a trusted strategic partner to key internal stakeholders.

Provide ongoing, high-level strategic consulting to key stakeholders to maximize insight leverage and business impact.

Translate complex data into clear, strategic recommendations and communicate findings through impactful deliverables (dashboards, briefings, brand planning meetings, war games/scenario analysis workshops, SWOTs).

Conduct primary and secondary CI; manage vendor partnerships and CI surveillance projects as needed.

Attend conferences and present at pre-conference and post-conference meetings

Maintain CI dashboards and work with teams to develop additional dashboards

Maintain CI best practices and ensure compliance with legal and ethical guidelines for intelligence gathering (e.g., SCIP code of ethics).

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business, life sciences, public health, business, or a related field.

Minimum of 10 years in pharmaceutical or healthcare industry with at least 5 years in CI.

Proven success leading CI to support advancement of early-stage pipeline and inline products.

Experience supporting both commercialized products and pipeline assets in a cross-functional matrix environment.

Experience gathering insights and assessing business opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Needed:

Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex, multi-source data into clear, actionable insights that address nuanced business challenges.

Familiarity with CI techniques, tools, and databases relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.

Demonstrated ownership of competitive intelligence initiatives, including proactive engagement with internal stakeholders and management of CI vendors.

Experience organizing or participating in war games, scenario planning, or strategy workshops.

An understanding of the pharmaceutical market, clinical development and regulatory milestones, and pharmaceutical company strategies.

Proven ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.

Skilled in delivering well-supported recommendations and influencing cross-functional efforts to drive strategic alignment and execution.

Exceptional communication and presentation skills. Proven ability to deliver clear, concise insights, and actionable recommendations to diverse audiences through both written and verbal channels. Skilled in presenting intelligence and implications in a compelling and clear manner.

Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Personal Attributes Needed:

Strong analytical and strategic thinking, with a keen attention to detail and intellectual curiosity.

Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects with tight, changing deadlines.

Ability to travel 10%.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $161,000 to $186,000. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual performance pay bonus.
