Job Purpose
The Production Operator – OJT participates in the operation of production digital printers, mail insertion machines, and finishing equipment to process batch cycle output, outgoing mail, and finishing requests. The OJT is responsible for gaining the Production Operator skills in operating our equipment, reviewing their output for quality, performing basic preventive maintenance, boxing and shipping of output, and delivery of output to internal customers.
Essential Responsibilities
- Participates in the operation and maintenance of printers, finishing equipment, and intelligent inserters to process work and meet daily department deadlines.
- Participates in the tracking and reporting of job processing and equipment outages in both online tracking systems and hard copy logs.
- Works with team to clean and perform operator preventative maintenance to equipment as needed.
- Learns to inspect the finished product by verifying the correct construction and components to ensure that quality standards are met.
- Demonstrates the ability to assist customers in answering questions.
Other Duties
- Ability to work rotating shifts across our two Lansing sites.
- Works scheduled overtime shifts during quarter end, tax season, holidays, and weekends, sometimes on short notice, to meet customer and regulatory needs.
- Operates company vehicles to transport materials between sites.
- Performs other duties as requested by management or by the Lead Production Operator.
- Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Basic mechanical abilities and motor skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good decision-making skills along with good research and analysis skills.
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Must have basic math skills to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Must be able to comprehend measurements on a ruler and work with fractions.
- Must possess a high degree of self-motivation, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Must be able to always maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, handling, storing, and disposing of confidential information appropriately.
- Must be able to stand, walk and bend for 95% of the scheduled shift.
- Ability to lift 60 pounds and safely work with chemicals that dry skin or damage clothing.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
- Must be able to organize and prioritize multiple tasks to meet scheduled deadlines.
- Ability to distinguish between different color hues and patterns.
- Ability to safely work where there is considerable noise, and the environmental conditions are cool.
Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver's license required.
