Job Summary

The Reese Department of Construction Management, which offers a BS in Construction Management, invites applications from individuals who have a strong background in Construction Management for a part-time (adjunct) instructor. The CM Department is part of the College of Business at Lamar University. The successful candidate is expected to have at the time of employment either a Masters' degree with at LU Job Description Form v.23.02 least 5 years of non-academic experience in the construction industry, predominantly working for the construction companies. The successful candidate should be willing to use demonstrated best practices in instructional strategies, such as cooperative learning, group process, team teaching, and interdisciplinary instruction. A letter of application, curriculum vitae, official transcripts for both undergraduate and graduate levels, and three letters of recommendation should be submitted. Background check required.

Essential Job Functions

    • Teach courses at assigned times using current pedagogical methods, maintaining accurate records of student performance and grades.
    • Maintain effective and timely communication with students, department chair, and other university personnel as appropriate.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

    • A Master’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, MBA, or other disciplines closely related to the duties and responsibilities.
    • 5 years of professional experience in the construction industry.

Desired Qualifications:

    • Previous teaching experience in the construction discipline at 2- or 4-year colleges.

Supplemental Information

Key Competencies:

    • Candidates must be able to teach courses in topics such as: construction materials and methods, industrial construction, construction graphics and print reading, and/or legal issues in construction.
    • Candidates are expected to be able to run and use online education platforms, such as Blackboard, in teaching.
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
    • Ability to implement effective and innovative teaching strategies.
    • Ability to foster a respectful and inclusive learning environment.

Physical Requirements:

The essential functions of this position are primarily intellectual and relational. The role requires the ability to:

    • Communicate effectively in the classroom, online, and meeting settings.
    • Engage with students, colleagues, and community partners respectfully and professionally.
    • Utilize technology for teaching, scholarship, and administrative tasks.
    • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds as needed.
