Johnson Controls is a global leader in the development, manufacture and sale of a wide range of building technologies and solutions, including building management systems, access, video and intrusion security systems, fire detection and suppression systems, air systems, refrigeration and HVAC controls and equipment.

This is an entry-level role ideal for recent graduates or individuals with limited legal experience who are eager to grow in a legal environment. The Legal Contracts Specialist will work in close collaboration with the Commercial Transactions legal team (U.S. and MX based lawyers) to deliver legal services to our internal and external clients across in U.S.

The Legal Contract Specialist will provide insight and assistance triaging and conduct contracting activities. Additionally, this person will assist and support the review, drafting and negotiation of agreements, including NDA’s, service agreements, master services and other related sales agreements.

The Legal Contract Specialist will ensure that the contracts comply with the legal requirements and request the appropriate approvals, if applicable.

The Legal Contracts Specialist must possess a “can do” attitude, be self-motivated, able to multi-task and prioritize work-related assignments. The successful candidate must be willing to develop a deep understanding of the Commercial Transactions businesses they support. This individual must be solution-oriented, demonstrate innovative thinking, work independently and proactively, and function as a trusted advisor to the attorneys and business team members they support.

Primary Duties:

  • Collaborate with legal, finance, sales and operations teams to successfully negotiate a contract
  • Assist and support the review, drafting and negotiation of select sales-related agreements in accordance with the company's policies and playbooks
  • Analyze contract terms and identify potential risks or liabilities
  • Contract approvals routing and management
  • Escalation management and routing
  • Assist in drafting and proofreading legal documents and correspondence
  • Conduct basic legal research under supervision
  • Support contract review and tracking processes

What we are looking for?

  • Law degree and - 2 years of legal experience supporting multinational organizations in the review and negotiation of English language contracts, whether as part of a law firm or corporate law department
  • Must be fluent in English, verbal and written
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products, with specific experience in Word, Power Point, Excel and database creation and maintenance
  • Eager to learn and grow in a legal career
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Able to follow instructions and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
