About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Stock Controller to join our Plant and Fleet OHL Back Office Team in Derby. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for managing all activities related to plant and logistics stock management. You will report to the Stock Control Team Leader and Systems & Compliance Manager, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our stock records and supporting the smooth operation of our plant and logistics services.

What you'll be doing

Your accountabilities will be as follows:

  • Completing regular physical inventory (PI) counts in the Stores, Workshop, and Yard locations, and investigating stock variances to resolution (around 50% of daily duties).
  • Liaising with internal and external customers to respond to stock requests and queries.
  • Managing On/Off Hire transactions and work card processing.
  • Coordinating and accurately managing stock, ensuring all procedures are followed.
  • Resolving stock issues, including procurement and transactional movements.
  • Maintaining and updating computerised stock control records.
  • Supporting IT system audits, GRN coordination, PAT testing, and calibration.
  • Assisting in creating purchase orders for new stock in line with company procedures.
  • Ensuring all orders are received within SLAs and following up with suppliers as needed.
  • Providing support to the Systems & Compliance Manager and producing ad hoc management reports.
  • Ensuring all work complies with Company Safety Rules, Health & Safety Legislation, and Environmental Standards.

Who we're looking for

  • Experience in inventory management and stock control, with knowledge of “lean” techniques desirable.
  • Competence in MS 365 platforms (Excel, Word, Outlook) and stock management systems.
  • Experience in plant and tool hire is beneficial.
  • Reach and FLT licence advantageous.
  • Good understanding of stores/warehouse operations.
  • Experience working in both stores/warehouse and office environments.
  • Excellent team working and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with plant & logistic service teams, suppliers, internal and external customers, and management.
