Overview

The Utilities Electronic Technician performs journey level electronic technician work involving installation, operation, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of electronic equipment related to flood control, water pumping stations or related electronic/electrical equipment to ensure efficient operation of the Dallas Water Utility.

Essential Functions

1 Evaluates performance and reliability of electronic equipment by applying electronic theory, principles of electronic circuitry, testing procedures, and related knowledge to install, build, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify equipment.

2 Repairs and replaces defective electronic equipment such as communication equipment, traffic signal lights and signs, sound/lighting equipment, and telecommunication equipment or related components to eliminate malfunctions.

3 Tests electronic components, circuits, and faulty equipment and apply knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction.

4 Prepares operating documentation to ensure accurate records are maintained.

5 Drives and operates vehicles to perform various work orders and requests; loads tools and material onto vehicle to ensure material is available to install or repair equipment.

6 Replaces electronic components in motors and water pumps at pumping stations; performs daily calibrations on sensors and pumps to ensure optimal operation and accurate functionality.

7 Engages and meets with customers to determine problems and identify issues; performs technical work to install, repair, replace, or remove electronic equipment to resolve problems and enhance service delivery.

8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Thorough knowledge of Water Utility and Wastewater Management facilities.

2 Thorough knowledge of the operation and function of water distribution equipment and systems including SCADA, MAXIMO, Shop Logs and other systems.

3 Knowledge of testing, diagnosing and repairing of electronic and electrical instruments, pumps, motors, actuators and many more electrical components.

4 Thorough knowledge of electronic theory and practice involved in the installation, testing, diagnosis, and repair of complex electronic circuitry.

5 Ability to identify and differentiate among color coded electronic components.

6 Ability to use a variety of standard electronic and electrical testing instruments and tools.

7 Ability to read and comprehend wiring diagrams and schematic drawings related to electronic equipment.

8 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing

9 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) years of experience in the installation, testing, diagnosis and repair of electronic, electrical controls, computer hardware or related electrical equipment preferably in a waste management or water utility setting.

EQUIVALENCIES:

  • Associate degree or higher in an electronic technology field plus (1) one year of the stated experience will meet the education and experience requirements.

LICENSE:

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

PREFERENCE:

  • Technician Certification

Salary Range

$25.12 - $28.85

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
