Providing compassionate care to the children, teenagers and young adults of Central Florida for more than 30 years, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is located on the downtown Orlando campus and includes 156 licensed beds for specialized care for children as well as the Bert Martin’s Champions for Children Emergency Department & Trauma Center, offering trauma care for children as the pediatric site of the Orlando Health ORMC Level One Trauma Center. State-of-the-art pediatric services are provided by a comprehensive staff that includes pediatric subspecialty physicians and a nursing team that is “Magnet” recognized for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. The hospital also has earned national recognition for 12 consecutive years as a “Best Children’s Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report and was included, together with Orlando Health ORMC, in the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® list for 2021.

Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Feeding Difficulties Center is seeking a Occupational Therapist. Occupational Therapist will treat injured, ill, or disabled patients through the therapeutic use of everyday activities to develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living and working.

Shift: Full Time - Weekend Option

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Evaluates patients, gathering data from the patient, physician, interdisciplinary team meetings if available, family and significant other persons and data sources.
  • Develops treatment plans which integrate with the continuum of care and have specific goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to treat and provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned caseload.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as delineated in the

departmental policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrates competency in the use, care and maintenance of profession specific equipment, observing safety precautions and providing verbal explanations of the equipment and its purpose.
  • Re-evaluates and modifies treatment plan and goals when appropriate, and prepares written documentation as required by the department, and the care team.
  • Recognizes and communicates when the patient has received optimal benefit from therapy.
  • Ensures complete documentation and accurate billing.
  • Adheres to State Practice Act and Standards of Practice.
  • Provides patient/family education as indicated.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

  • Participates in Performance Improvement, program development, student supervision, assigned committees, safety and infection control, as required.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of legal issues, patient right and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Attends rehabilitation meetings, in-services, and any patient care meetings that are required for the assignment.
  • Practices efficient use and selection of supplies and equipment.
  • Instructs support personnel in their duties as necessary.

Qualifications

Education/Training

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an approved program in occupational therapy.

Licensure/Certification

  • Maintains current Occupational Therapist license in the State of Florida-temporary permit acceptable.
  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.

Experience

  • At least two (2) years of experience as an Occupational Thearapist an acute care setting.
