Wound Care Specialist - UPMC Cranberry Passavant

UPMC Cranberry Passavant is hiring a Part Time Wound Care Specialist.

8-week orientation working 5 days/week THEN transition to working 3 days/week – 1 day on the wound side 2 days in HBO

NO travel, NO holiday, NO weekend

Responsibilities

  • Use critical thinking to assess clinical, social, psychological, and spiritual needs of patients, especially those requiring ostomy or skin care, ensuring continuity of care post-discharge.
  • Apply evidence-based practices and align with national standards (e.g., NPUAP, WOCN) to enhance patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.
  • Foster compassionate, patient-centered care by building strong relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Serve as a clinical expert and role model in wound, ostomy, and continence care; provide education and mentorship to students, new hires, and peers.
  • Lead and participate in staff development through in-services, lectures, journal clubs, and sharing of professional resources.
  • Support unit-based skin care committees and contribute to clinical quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in product evaluations to ensure cost-effective, high-quality care.
  • Promote a healthy work environment by modeling cultural awareness, addressing workplace issues, and maintaining work-life balance.
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, ensuring clear documentation and coordination of care plans.
  • Engage in shared governance, hospital-wide councils, and team leadership to drive positive change and innovation in patient care.
  • Continuously seek feedback and pursue professional growth within the specialty.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 years nursing experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse license or eligible for State Board Licensure. Certification in Wound Care preferred CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire Special Skills and Abilities Required Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physician, non-physician providers. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment and handle multiple and changing priorities.

  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
