Based in Auckland, New Zealand and reporting to the Pacific IT Director, this critical leadership role will see you heading our Project Management Office (PMO) and ensuring our projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. We are looking for a visionary leader with a strong track record in managing complex projects, optimising processes, and fostering a high-performing team.

This role has a Pacific remit, with direct reports based across New Zealand and Australia. It will require some travel (4 to 6 times a year) and engagement with our Head Office in the UK and vendors in Europe. Due to the time zone differences, this will sometimes mean attending meetings outside the normal NZ working hours.

Key Responsibilities

As the Head of IT Projects, your focus will be on Strategic Leadership and Portfolio Management:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the overall project management strategy, methodologies, and best practices. You will be responsible for aligning our project portfolio with the company's strategic goals and priorities.
  • Portfolio Management: Oversee the entire IT project portfolio, ensuring effective resource allocation and managing inter-project dependencies and risks.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Project Managers and Business Analysts, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the PMO.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships and manage expectations with key stakeholders, including the Pacific Senior Leadership team, Branch Managers, and vendors.
  • Project Oversight: Provide hands-on leadership for critical projects, establishing and maintaining project governance frameworks.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular, insightful analysis and recommendations to senior leadership on project status, risks, and performance.

Skills & Experience Required

We are looking for a leader who can step in and make an immediate impact.

Essential Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in project management.
  • Experience in a leadership role overseeing a PMO or a significant project portfolio.
  • Strong understanding of various project management methodologies (e.g., Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, Hybrid).
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Jira, Asana, Microsoft Project).
  • Relevant certifications, e.g., Agile or Scrum Master.

Highly Desirable:

  • 5 years of experience in a leadership role overseeing a PMO or a significant project portfolio.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent certification.
