Job Description Summary
The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach assists in organizing, conducting, and supervising all aspects of a Division II Women’s Basketball program, within the parameters designated by the University, Sunshine State Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). This position focuses on student-athlete development, recruitment, and day-to-day program operations while supporting the Head Coach in achieving program success.
Job Description
Duties and Tasks:
- Assist in overseeing student-athlete development and performance for the women’s intercollegiate basketball team, including:
- Recruiting and evaluating prospective student-athletes
- Conducting and supervising practices and player conditioning
- Assisting in developing and implementing event-specific training strategies
- Monitoring academic progress and personal development of student-athletes
- Creating a positive and productive environment for student-athletes
- Assist with administrative functions within the program, including:
- Ensuring compliance with all NCAA and conference regulations
- Supporting budget management, equipment needs, and travel logistics
- Attending conference and NCAA meetings as required
- Engage in promotional and public relations efforts to advance the athletic program, including:
- Assisting with fundraising activities to support the women’s basketball program
- Representing the Department of Athletics at university and community functions
- Encouraging community service participation among student-athletes
- Promote the University’s core values and contribute to effective partnerships within the campus community
- Ensure strong communication and service to all internal and external stakeholders
- Contribute to an inclusive and welcoming environment for student-athletes, staff, and the university community
- Perform other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of coaching techniques and strategies for basketball
- Ability to motivate and develop student-athletes
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to recruit high-caliber student-athletes
- Valid Driver’s License
- Proficiency in computer programs used for coaching, recruiting, and analysis
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
- Collegiate or high school coaching experience required
- Proven ability to mentor and develop student-athletes
- Commitment to compliance with NCAA and University rules and regulations
Physical Demands:
- Ability to demonstrate proper basketball techniques and training
- Set up and move equipment for practices and competitions
- Lift up to 10 pounds as necessary for team-related activities
