Position Type: Regular - Full-Time

Position Location: Timaru

Grade: Grade 03

Requisition ID: 38600

In every role, McCainers are ambitious, curious, and passionate about creating exceptional work experiences - together. With a customer-first mindset, we make doing business with McCain easy.

About the role.

As a Manufacturing Process Trainer at McCain’s Timaru Potato Plant, you will lead, coordinate, and deliver training programs supporting our production and processing teams. This is a fully on-site role based at our Timaru facility. Your primary focus will be delivering practical, high-impact training to approximately 16–18 production and processing team members who work rotating shifts. Please note: while your trainees work across multiple shifts, the trainer role is fully on-site during regular daytime hours. You will also interact with other departments for support and guidance, but your formal training responsibilities are concentrated on production and processing staff. By fostering a strong safety, quality, and development culture, you will directly contribute to McCain’s vision of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

What you’ll be doing.

  • Prepare, plan, and deliver training programs to production and processing team members, ensuring all regulatory and company standards are met.
  • Regularly review, update, and maintain training materials, SOPs, and related documentation to ensure ongoing relevance and effectiveness.
  • Actively promote a strong health, safety, and quality culture throughout the plant.
  • Support the implementation of plant programs, policies, and procedures through effective training delivery.
  • Conduct Training Needs Analyses and participate in investigations to ensure training is tailored to actual business requirements.
  • Foster a proactive learning environment, supporting the growth and capability of production and processing teams.
  • Organise, manage, and deliver compliance and induction training, ensuring that all necessary materials and support are available.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives within the training function.
  • Participate in assessments and audits to help ensure overall plant training effectiveness and compliance.
  • Engage and communicate with internal stakeholders, sharing best practices in training and development.

What you’ll need to be successful.

We’re looking for someone with the right attitude and the ability to work proactively and collaboratively in a dynamic environment. While previous experience in manufacturing or training is helpful, what matters most is your enthusiasm, practical mindset, and commitment to developing others. The qualities and experience that will help you thrive include:

  • A can-do attitude, willingness to learn, and self-motivation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to engage with a variety of people.
  • Ability to work independently, organise your workload, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Practical problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Stakeholder management and experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Exposure to safety systems, quality management concepts (such as ISO, HACCP, GMP), lean manufacturing, Microsoft Office, or digital learning tools can be beneficial.

Formal qualifications in training or manufacturing are welcomed but by no means essential—what matters most is your ability and drive to succeed in this role.

About the team.

You’ll be part of the small Training function at our Timaru plant, reporting to the Timaru Training Lead and working alongside a Packing Trainer. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with production and shift supervisors, as well as managers responsible for production, health, quality, and safety. This structure ensures you are well connected to key teams across the plant, helping to align training with operational needs.
