Divisional Bookkeeper

Summary:

As a follower of Jesus Christ and a minister of His Gospel, demonstrate a basic understanding of Young Life’s ministry strategy and participate in providing excellent camping experiences for individuals to encounter Jesus Christ and know the truth of God’s love for them. Through both formal training and direct experience, lead staff and foster an environment where guests, staff, and volunteers are well cared for using the cornerstones of Biblical stewardship and YL financial and administrative systems. The Bookkeeper III is a support role that works alongside multiple camps in a division.Specifically, this position will maintain bookkeeping and accounting operations in the office and will provide support to multi-camp personnel, working closely with the administrative managers in daily office operations. In addition, the Bookkeeper III serves as a resource coach and trainer to other camp bookkeepers throughout the mission.

Essential Duties:

Multiple Camp Responsibility

Perform all duties described below for multiple camps

Collaborate with other Divisional Bookkeepers in facilitating best practices across camps

Provide Bookkeeper training annually and as needed

Lead camp wide initiatives as they arise

Essential Duties (continued):

Bookkeeping

Maintain all aspects of the camp accounting processes, including financial accounts, reports, reconciliations and cash collection/deposits

Record transactions including camp fees, expenses, store and snack bar deposits, inter-camp and inter-departmental transfers, camp capital and major maintenance projects

Prepare month-end and year-end entries for accounts payable and general ledger as required

Complete monthly reports according to parameters and deadlines set by the Young Life accounting department

Perform monthly reconciliation of the bank statement and accounts receivable aging report

Assist with monthly financial/statistical reports as directed by administration manager

Reconcile US Foods clearing account monthly

Accounts Payable

Process all camp invoices timely and accurately, reviewing in Concur as necessary

Figure and pay sales tax as required by state law

Prepare month end entries for AP & GL as required by the Service Center (SC)

Computer Responsibilities

Use Young Life accounting software and Excel to accurately record accounting transactions on a timely basis

Record accounting transactions according to Young Life Policy using entries in the Financial and Statistical report prepared by the camp to support all revenue entries

Financial Reports

Complete monthly reports according to parameters and deadlines set by the SC accounting department

Payroll/Budget

Act as liaison between the payroll department and employee for payroll issues as necessary

Compare the yearly budget in Lawson to the camp’s budget template

Year-End Reporting

Assist SC accounting department with year-end close requests

Assist SC accounting department with external audit inquiries and requests as needed

Education:

Accounting degree or equivalent experience

Experience Required For The Job:

Three plus years of bookkeeping experience or an Accounting Degree

Knowledge of computers and fluency with Microsoft Office applications

Ability to learn and use all internal Young Life systems

Experience with Lawson and Concur preferred

Strong organizational skills

Strong attention to detail

Compelling desire to help people

Positive attitude and shows initiative

Timely response to requests for information

Task prioritization and time management skills

Able to perform under stress, noise and interruptions

Ability to perform duties for various camps and report to multiple supervisors

Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

Some travel required

Job Specific Working Conditions:

Note: The anticipated hourly rate for this position can range from $19.00-$23.80 depending on relevant education, experience, and location.
