POSITION SUMMARY

The Risk Management Specialist provides analytical and administrative support for the District’s risk management programs. This position collects, analyzes, and reports on risk-related data to inform decision-making and support mitigation strategies under the direction of the Director and Manager of Risk Management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • EDUCATION
    • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, Statistics, or a related field preferred
    • Additional years of equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement
  • CERTIFICATION:
    • None Required
  • WORK EXPERIENCE:
    • Three (3) years of experience in risk management, insurance, or data analytics preferred
    • Experience in K–12 education or public sector preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Knowledge of risk management principles, insurance programs, and claims processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, interpret, and present data effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis or visualization tools.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to interpret trends, identify process improvements, and support risk reduction strategies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes risk-related data, including incident reports, claims, and loss trends.
  • Prepares recurring and ad hoc reports to support insurance renewals, budgeting, and risk assessments.
  • Assists with vehicle accident investigations, including documentation, evidence collection, and coordination with insurance carriers.
  • Supports safety and hazard inspections of district sites, documenting findings and coordinating corrective action follow-ups.
  • Assists with scheduling, preparing, and delivering monthly and quarterly pre-loss training sessions; compiles materials, tracks attendance, and analyzes outcomes.
  • Research best practices in risk management and recommend process improvements.
  • Monitors and tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) related to claims frequency, severity, and costs.
  • Provides administrative support for risk management programs, including maintaining records, updating databases, and assisting with documentation and training.
  • Assists in the development and communication of risk management policies, procedures, and educational materials.
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in person and be available to work on-site during regular business hours and as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator or their representative

Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 15 or more pounds on a frequent basis.

Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.

Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities: Will require travel to multiple sites.
