You Are:

We are seeking a talented and driven Cloud Data Engineer to join our Cloud FinOps team. This role is pivotal in shaping the financial transparency and operational efficiency of our cloud infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data solutions that provide deep visibility into cloud spend, drive cost optimization, and uphold financial governance across multi-cloud environments.

The opportunity:

  • Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable, resilient data pipelines to ingest and process cloud billing, usage, and cost data from AWS, Azure, and GCP. Ensure high throughput and low latency for real-time and batch workloads.
  • Data Modeling & ETL/ELT: Develop robust ETL/ELT frameworks and dimensional data models that support clean, reliable, and performant datasets for analytics and reporting. Optimize data transformations for scalability and maintainability.
  • Automation & Cost Optimization: Automate workflows for cost data collection, tagging enforcement, and cost allocation. Implement solutions that support continuous monitoring and proactive cost optimization across cloud services.
  • Analytics & Business Intelligence: Partner with FinOps analysts to build intuitive dashboards, reports, and forecasting models using BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and Looker. Enable stakeholders to monitor cost trends, detect anomalies, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Cloud Engineering and Finance teams to define KPIs, set up s, and deliver recommendations for right-sizing resources, improving reserved instance coverage, and reducing waste.
  • Data Governance & Compliance: Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with internal security policies and external financial reporting standards. Implement best practices for metadata management, lineage tracking, and auditability.

What you need:

  • 3–6 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, preferably in cloud cost management or FinOps environments.
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their billing APIs.
  • Strong skills in SQL, Python, and data orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Data Factory).
  • Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker) and building financial dashboards.
  • Familiarity with cost tagging strategies, reserved instances, and cloud optimization techniques.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field is required.

Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.

Role Location: Washington

Compensation Range: $75,000-$113,000

Benefits

Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty. They are eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer matching. They and their dependents residing in the US are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as the following Company-paid Employee Only benefits: basic life insurance, accidental death and disability insurance, and short- and long-term disability benefits. Regular employees may purchase additional voluntary short-term disability benefits, and participate in a Health Savings Account (HSA) as well as a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for healthcare, dependent child care, and/or commuting expenses as allowable under IRS guidelines. Benefits offerings vary in Puerto Rico.

Part-time employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year) and are eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer matching.

Full-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year) and are eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) program with employer matching. They and their dependents residing in the US are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance.

Part-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year).

All US employees who work in a state or locality with more generous paid sick leave benefits than specified here will receive the benefit of those sick leave laws.
