Job description
At Vertafore, our Database team plays a critical role in powering the backbone of our Products and applications by managing a robust and sophisticated database environment hosted on AWS and OnPrem. This environment includes Oracle Enterprise running on EC2 instances, Cassandra and Amazon Aurora PgSQL on RDS. We are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of database health, stability, and availability to ensure seamless, uninterrupted service for our customers. By leveraging cutting-edge cloud technologies and best practices, our team drives innovation and reliability in support of Vertafore mission to deliver exceptional software solutions.
Required Skills & Responsibilities:
- Hands-on experience with relevant AWS services for database management, including RDS (Oracle,PgSQL), EC2, DMS, CloudWatch, IAM, S3, and VPC.
- DevOps Principles - Strong understanding of DevOps methodologies and a focus on automation, continuous integration, and delivery for efficient database operations in the cloud.
- Manage the operational aspects of Cloud-based and on-prem databases, including cloud security, auditing, monitoring, database availability, backup and recovery.
- CI/CD Pipelines - Experience in integrating database operations into CI/CD pipelines, utilizing tools like Jenkins and GitHub for automated deployments and testing.
- Ability to design and implement infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform for provisioning and managing AWS resources.
- Scripting - Proficiency in scripting languages like PL/SQL, SQL, Unix/Linux Shell, Perl, and Python for automation and administration tasks.
- Upgrade and patch Oracle, PgSQL, MySQL, MongoDB databases using various techniques for minimal downtime.
- Creating and managing standby databases, High-Availability architecture.
- Advanced skills in diagnosing and resolving database performance issues using tools like AWR, ADDM, ASH, and TKPROF.
- Automate and test backup and recovery solutions for highly available databases across multiple technologies.
- Help document, design, maintain and evaluate major changes to standards and procedures related to database technology direction changes.
- Participate in on-call support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with development teams, stakeholders, and potential clients.
ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience as an Oracle production DBA environment.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with AWS EC2, RDS and PostgreSQL preferred.
Monitoring & BI Tools:
- Oracle Enterprise Manager 13.5
- Configuring database monitoring through templates
- Knowledge of DynaTrace and Power BI is a plus.
Certifications:
Oracle OCP DBA, OCI, or AWS certifications are often preferred.
