Help us create a better future, quicker!

At SP Energy Networks our focus is on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. Our team is building a dynamic network to meet the changing demands for electricity and increasingly, renewable electricity – safely, securely and sustainably in the communities we serve.

Our people are our greatest asset, and we’re always looking for individuals whose energy, intelligence, and passion can help us shape the future

We’re looking for a driven and strategic leader to take on the role of Strategic Compliance Manager within SP Manweb. This is a key opportunity for someone ready to step into a high-impact position, leading a team of experts in financial governance, regulatory compliance, and performance reporting.

As Strategic Compliance Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting our ED2 financial and regulatory performance, while preparing the licence for future industry and regulatory demands. You’ll lead a team of professionally qualified specialists in accounting, data, and regulatory policy, and work closely with senior leaders to ensure our business objectives are met and exceeded.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead and manage a team responsible for delivering accurate budgeting, forecasting, and business planning across ~10,000 live projects and £225m annual spend.
  • Oversee capital investment governance, ensuring compliance with Iberdrola and Ofgem policies, and chair monthly/quarterly governance meetings.
  • Drive strategic initiatives to improve performance, reduce unit costs, and maximise profit—targeting efficiencies such as reducing Payments in Advance by 20% and recovering £6–12m in overheads annually.
  • Lead the development and submission of regulatory reports, including RRP tables and Open Data requirements, ensuring alignment with Data Assurance Guidance and RIGs.
  • Manage the Directorate’s investment approval process, ensuring only value-adding projects are approved and supported by robust commercial analysis.
  • Act as licence lead for financial control policy, ensuring all controls are implemented, communicated, and compliant with governance standards.
  • Support and deputise for the Commercial and Performance Manager, contributing to strategic decision-making and continuous improvement across the business.
  • Champion SAP housekeeping, TECO targets, and operational excellence to ensure data integrity and delivery efficiency.
  • Lead the development of carbon offset reporting and pricing policy strategy, supporting sustainability and commercial value.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including Ofgem, auditors, contractors, and industry working groups to ensure compliance and influence future regulatory frameworks

What we’re looking for

  • Professional qualification in Commercial/Accounting or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
  • Proven experience in a senior managerial role, ideally within SPEN or a related business area.
  • Expert knowledge of accounting practices, regulatory obligations, and commercial law.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a high-performing team.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent planning, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience managing complex data and reporting systems, including SAP and other financial tools.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive business change across multiple functions.
